I love my gen-2 4.0 with the spin on filter at the top of the engine. I refuse to change the wife's cartridge filter on the Prius V for this very reason.

you know ive opened brand new Toyota filters canister style and seen pinched gaskets, I've also seen brand new ones leak after properly tightening them up. i like being able to grab an older style filter and spin it down. and know its old but likely not going to have the same issues

I never use an oem filter. Put ring in correct location and I torque it to proper specs. No issues.

You planning to let Toyota know they still didn't call you?

I was going to, but ten minutes after I called the GM, I got a call from the service manager, who acted like this was the first she heard of this. I said yeah I left you two voicemails, and she countered with "well things have been crazy over here." For a week? Pure BS.

I get into the issue and she says oh don't worry, its noted that it was their fault so if anything happens, "you're good." As far as extending the warranty on the motor she said that I still had another 10k to go on that so they wouldn't extend it, but if there are any issues they would take care of it, 100%. Somehow I'm not convinced. I then asked how can this happen when its a simple task, clearly it wasn't one of the master mechanics who did this work. She said that if I wanted a mechanic to do the oil change as opposed to a "tech" then I should just ask for that in the future. Oh ok, so if I want someone competent to work on my truck I need to say that each time, got it.

Yeah, I'd bypass the dealership and ask Toyota if they'll extend the warranty. If not, tag that dealership and get the details on the "anything" they'll cover if it goes wrong. If it's not in writing it never happened.

So the dealership/service douche/compliance retard has given you an iron clad verbal guarantee that they will cover any issue that arises from their incompetence.

    That guarantee is worthless.

It's a halfass attempt to appease you long enough for them to claim any future damage is unrelated to their screw-up, If the engine fails or starts making warning noises they will pull out every excuse why it's not on them...if it was damaged by the oil incident it would have happened sooner ~ you misunderstood what she told you ~ she didn't have the authority to give you a warranty ~ do you have that in writing? ~ not covered you abused the engine

The only way to get any type of guarantee is to open up a case with Toyota Corporate.1-800-331-4331...Dealerships get sold or close.

That’s what I’ve done. I had the plastic housing crack on a Camry before. That’s a real PIA.

Geezzzz if you cant trust the dealer to do a simple oil change then what.

BUT. Oil rack monkeys are the bottom rung of the ladder, everyone knows that.

    Todays humans...makes you wonder.

You should be Leary of posting any spills on the net especially with your license plate , the road rule of thumb never invite a claim.

I'd push for a extended warranty and free car washes for life, Good Luck.

Get that in writing with printed and signed names of the service manager and General Manager of the dealer. Maybe even going beyond them too. These people change frequently.

Bought some skunky Coronas today and called the 800 number , the feedback from them was like a Stealership also , full court press minus the light shining in your eyes and a billy club.

I love all the posts where everyone knows exactly how this happened. Maybe it's less a problem with the mechanic that did it and more of a problem with how Toyota engineered it.

I work in the public and private sectors. We just have to assume that there are people out there so stupid they are why we need instructions on shampoo.

Curious as to which dealership. I am also in NJ and stopped going to mine because they were making multiple mistakes, one of which I caught in the parking lot before leaving and they simply shrugged.
