This question or one similar regarding oil and filter change intervals has been a thousand times on these forums. The answers are always the same. They are for the most part based on unscientific personal opinions. Every truck and driver is different. Some may tow boats and trailers, some may drive mostly stop and go city driving, some may drive off road or in dusty conditions, some may drive often in steep terrain, some may drive with heavy loads in the bed and on and on. Some engines may run hotter than others reducing oil life. What’s right for one may not be right for another, there are too many variables to make a blanket statement that apply to everyone. In the case of oil changes why should you go by what some stranger with no or unknown credentials says.
Why the big deal about going with extended oil change intervals? As someone pointed out you have a vehicle that costs $20,000 to $40,000, the cost of doing oil changes a little more often than extending them is inconsequential. Maybe over the lifetime of the vehicle you save a couple hundred dollars probably the cost of one or two months cell phone bills.
As far as using synthetic oil, blended oil, brand name oil or crap oil the only thing you can say is you can’t go wrong following manufacturer specified intervals. You probably won’t harm your vehicle by extending oil/filter change intervals but unless you are a petroleum automotive chemist or engineer you can’t say with certainty. I say change your oil and filter at what ever interval you want but you can’t be wrong using manufacturer specified intervals.
