    Been awhile guys!

I'm at the 27k mark, and the dealer never mentioned to me that if you go any milage over the 25k mark, they do not cover that last "free" service. Wonderful...

Anyways, I don't mind doing my own oil changes. Everything was going great, until that POS filter housing. I tried two different 64mm oil caps from Toyota, then I went to the dealer and got the "special" one with the 3 slots up top... no dice! They had cranked that housing on so GD tight, I can't get it off! I tried so hard the housing cracked! Now I'm stuck and need assistance. I tried WD40 around the rim, I tried tapping on it gently with a hammer, I tried a piece of wood on the upper fins... nothing!

    1. What are my other options to remove this thing?

    2. I hear a lot of people switch to an aluminum housing? That seems like a logical next move if I can ever get this one off.

    Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem with mine. It was well beyond the 20 ft lbs it’s supposed to be.

mine didn’t break but I was shocked it didn’t. I got it off with the wrench and a big breaker bar. If I hadn’t been able to get it off, I probably would have taken it back to the dealer and told them to remove it and I’m gonna reassemble it. Or I would have taken it out it pieces if I broke it.

I switched to the metal housing and never took mine to the dealer again.

Ya I was going to take mine to the dealer and tell them to fix it but when it snapped it punctured the housing a bit and it has a small hole, so I would have to tow it there and that's a pain.

check your local AutoZone, they sell the aluminum replacement. When I had my 23 offroad, the dealer cranked the filter so hard it broke when I removed it. I tried a breaker bar and it wouldn't budge, ended up using my 1/2 drive impact to remove it.

Ya my problem is I don't know how to get it off. I don't have a drive impact. Maybe I need to buy one...

My girlfriend had a Corolla like that. I used a breaker bar & kicked it as hard as I could.

It was the jolt that put it into submission, lol :D

If you don't mind bringing it over and shooting the housing off, that'd be great. If that don't work, save me a bullet haha.

Do you have a long breaker bar? 18" or longer
On old caps you can use 21 mm socket.

Keep applying a steady force. It will come off

Problem is I have a Kalilfab Pre Runner Bumper on so I have limited hand space. I'll have to try again one more time in the morning, otherwise I think I'ma have to take the bumper off, and then buy an Impact Wrench.

You can use extensions to get a clearance. Also make sure you put cap properly.
    Where did it crack?

I had to use an impact wrench to get mine off. Luckily it didn't break.

A chunk came off of the base where the cap sits, closest to the ground, and then some of the fins up top snapped off.

Where are you located? I can likely break it loose for you. Unless the truck is not driveable.

Bigger the breaker bar/ratchet the better. The tool you use to remove is also important. I really like this one from Matco below. Broke a few housings until I got this tool.

I am in La Puente, California. Truck is not drivable cuz there is now a hole in the housing and the filter, so it will not hold oil.

You could try & put some epoxy or JBWeld on it. Clean as best as possibe & let it cure overnight.

Should get you to the parts store & a good mechanic, who knows how to improvise.

They can be a real pain in the butt when they crack. Good Luck :)

I have a motorcycle that I can ride to the store with. I would just hate to put all new oil in it just to have it drained and replaced again haha. I will try the breaker bar one time, and then see if I can find an impact wrench today... and if not, then I admit defeat. Thanks for the help everyone. Special thank you to the dealership for this headache.

Maybe a big ass pipe wrench with a pipe on the end of it for leverage, lol. :)

    You'll get it off, buddy.
