I just did my first oil change on my new (to me) 2018 Tacoma. WhenI took the cap off I found an O ring at the base of the perforated tube. It looks to be identical to the small O ring on the drain cap. I have never seen any mention of this in any posts. My question is is this supposed to be there or did a previous oil changer install it. Thanks

Check out post #4 to see the proper position of the O-ring.

Pics would help. There's only 2 o-rings, a big one and a smaller one

So as the OP describes it, somebody put an extra O-ring inside the filter cap. It’s over the center tube, & would be under the filter element when it’s installed.

Yet this is another reason why I don’t let dealerships or grease monkeys at some fast change oil place mess with my truck.

Not supposed to be there. It's possiblity from a "performance" filter, I think even the TRD uses them on the filter element. The standard Toyota filter just has a soft-ish material on both ends.
