I have received counterfeit OEM filters from Amazon. Something seemed slightly off about the packaging and so I went and bought one locally to compare side by side. the Amazon one went into the trash after that

Well, I guess this counterfeit oil filter is a real thing; who knew! BTW, my local Wally World here in north Atlanta sells the genuine Toyota oil filter for our engine. I guess Wally World could be getting scammed too, but I am counting on them getting the real thing.

    Carry on!

Like spark plugs maybe the filters are made by 2 different suppliers. I bought Denso plugs a few times and noticed a difference in the ones from Japan and the other made in Thailand ( if I remember correctly).

That orange color is how the new OEM filters are coming in now. We noticed the change a few months ago. Toyota may have changed the supplier.

Don't the real Toyota boxes have like a hologram sticker on them? Or are they counterfeiting those too?

You're the second person I've heard say this.

So either there's a batch of fakes running around - or Toyota added some extra dye haha.

That said - there's a few things I won't buy on Amazon...in no particular order:
    1) Anything I put in my body
    2) Electronic devices
    3) Oil filters

It’s just not worth the risk to ever buy any (supposed) OEM parts from Amazon or Ebay these days. Even if the seller’s name is a dealership and you think you’re getting something from Toyota, how do you know it’s not a scammer that simply made their username sound like a dealership? There’s so many cheap counterfeit parts out there now, I feel like it’s about a 50/50 chance or less of getting the real thing. For cheap stuff like filters and spark plugs, it just isn’t worth the risk to save a few bucks, and a lot of times the dealership is just as cheap or even cheaper… I just bought some Denso spark plugs for my 4Runner at the dealer for $2.33 each, and the best price on Amazon or Ebay was over $4. Sites like https://parts.toyota.com/ will list the online prices of different dealers local to you, which you can buy for significantly less than what you will pay at the counter in person, and then just go pick it up at the same counter.

In the past Champ labs was one of the largest filter makers. Something like 7 out of 10 domestic brands were Champ.

Because I call the dealer and ask them for their Ebay account name.

Just an update, I went to a local Toyota dealership and bought a filter set (almost $10/ea). It confirms the new filter is in Orange color. The one from another dealership via Amazon looks legit. Thank you for your previous comments and feedbacks.

Last fall i bought a set of 3 toyota oil filters off eBay....they are the originals made in Thailand for roughly $5 each. My past experience is, anytime you buy the same part from a dealer its double.

Agree, it is so right. I almost believe if there were a “Auto Depot”, it might just be very successful.

Just changed my oil and noticed the oem filters are now orange instead of the cream colored. Threw me off for a minute
