Seems like you don't think the substantially better manufacturing tolerances in engine components haven't also reduced blow-by and other contaminant sources. Any particular reason you think that?

Have you had a Blackstone analysis done? I'd like to see what their read was on the level of contaminants in your oil at 5K and what they thought about the 10K OCI.

Nothing like that. It's my 40+ years of doing my own maintenance and my own piece of mind

Just purchased a 10 pack of Toyota OEM oil filters on Amazon for $40 with free shipping.

    Why?

Because I change my filter when I change my oil... every 5,000 miles. Like Toyota tells me to.

That's nice. Any particular reason you're sharing that on the third gen forum? :)

I'm sorry. You're right. I forgot that 3rd Gen don't need oil changes. And they don't ask for people's input on when to change oil, filters, etc.

And folks with 2nd Gen obviously don't know anything about those topics.

If I were to tell a 2nd gen owner to change their oil at 10,000 miles "like Toyota tells me to," would you consider that to be helpful advice for that new owner of a 2nd gen or would you consider that to be potentially harmful advice?

Nope. Just a fan of information that is helpful rather than misleading, even when unintentional.

Maybe so....but there's nothing special about the G3's oil or filter. So info from G2 owners can still be helpful

Yes you are right, obviously.... You do not know anything about 3rd gens... Go back to the 2nd gen site if you are giving advice..!!
Your advice is possibly good for those old trucks, but the new ones ARE different..!!
Yes, we need tools to change oil.... damn, I wish we still had the spin-on filter up top where it should be... but we don't..! It was nice while it lasted... Just think guys...if Toyota had left that filter up there, they could have changed to the cartridge thing we have now.. Would that be nice..? No having to remove skid plate, lay on ground...etc.etc...
    Damn...Toyota.

I must have been mistaken, you're saying the G2 uses a cartridge element filter with the housing at the bottom of the engine? I thought the G2 used a spin-on canister filter at the top of the engine?

As for oil, 0W20 full synth is the same for each. Kind of important to note that the quantities are different, as are the Toyota specified oil change interval. Saying 5,000 miles because that's what Toyota says is rather misleading when Toyota says something different for the third gen.

While it might be new to you....I've been changing cartridge filters in AR, GR and 2Z Toyota engines for over a decade

I would be curious to know if there is a mechanical/gravitational advantage to having the filter at the bottom, or if it's simply to make the dealer's lives easier in the oil pit and encourage dealer service.

Want a gold star with that? My only points regarding filters have been as to location... which IS different.

I'll certainly share when that comes about, but it'll be four or five months. I did an early change at 1600 and have a bit over 2k on the current oil.

    Huh? The location is different.

If you think I made some other point regarding filters, please remind me.

Everyone knows the location is different. I just find it interesting that you seem to think that only G3 owners can comment on G3 OCs.

No idea. My funcar has a cartridge filter on the top. Other have been on the side, or the front, etc. I've never quite seen a pattern to it since I started helping my dad with stuff 40+ years ago.
