If that's what you think then you've misread or misunderstood something. My only objection is giving people WRONG information, i.e. citing Toyota as the reason for a 5,000 mile interval without explaining that its for a completely different motor.

That 2nd paragraph was not there when I read the original post. Did you edit? Because that would have changed my responses

@Plain Jane Taco - Yes, I added the second paragraph immediately after writing the first one; you must have grabbed the quote of the first part while I was typing the second part. I hadn't realized your post also referred to oil as well as the filter.

I change mine between 3,500 and 5,000 miles, a 2003 TRD DCSB. I've got 178,000 miles so the extra expense is worth it if you keep the truck for lots of miles. Engine runs fine. My mechanic wants to buy it when I sell.

The beauty of reading is that you can tell which threads you may or may not be interested in before entering. Don't open it if it is something you are not interested in.

Hey fellas, I wanna verify this part number as being for the aluminum oil filter housing. 15620-31060

Gave that part # to the kid working at the Toyota parts counter and he was extremely confused. Came back with just the filter element. I just left it at that.

Apparently "Reading" (aka the Manual) isn't something all of these folks starting these threads do much of either.

That changed the whole dynamic of our interaction. I didn't see the 2nd paragraph until much later

LMAO I love how these 3rd Genners are so butt hurt over nothing.

I told the OP to change their oil filter with their oil. Many of us told the OP to read their manual.

As long as you use the proper Toy640 filter housing wrench...the plastic housing is quite robust. I have dozens and dozens of cartridge filters changes under my belt on all manner of Toyota engines over the years...my cars, friends, family and neighbors. I've never seen a cracked plastic housing. A neighbors RAV4 housing was a bit rounded off because someone had used a regular wrech on it. But not cracked.

The housing does not use a gasket to seal....but rather an o-ring. So it only needs to be snugged down.

With the proper wrench and not over torquing the housing....the plastic will easily last the life of the vehicle
