I have a k&n on there only because i ran out of OEMs. The mobile 1 filter is basically the same as a k&n for those guys who want to select k&n but it isn't an option on the poll.

What is the definitive part number for the OEM oil filter for 2013 2.7L 4WD?

    Thanks

Some vehicles are tighter on clearance than the Tacoma.
Wife's 2.4 Rav4 uses a completely different filter that is shorter and smaller diameter, Corolla would likely be the same.
The new engine designs are going back to the cartridge type filters.

Bleh, my Mazda had those....I didn't like it. Very messy to change.

    Depends on the orientation.
The Toyota cartridge filter comes with a snap-in tool that drains the housing. IIRC, it has a nipple so you can even slip a hose over it.

That beats the snot out of breaking the filter on the 2.7 where the oil drips all over the trans cooler lines and the edge of the pan.

FJ, Tundra, and Camry already have it. I would expect to see it in the Tacoma the next time they revise the engines.

Are there any comparisons between the Mobil 1 209 and OEM? I've been running the M1-209 but if the OEM is better, I'll use that. I'm hoping for 300k+ miles on this engine.

Same guts as the Mobil-1 and K&N.

    For $8-10, a good deal, with Mobil-1 and K&N being 12+

I agree, but a cursory inspection reveals a lot... like the unsealed bypass valve on the PureOne and cardboard bypass on the Mann.

When Walmart started carrying Fram exclusively (about 15 years ago), the quality disappeared almost over night. Since then I've only used STP. The last time I saw a comparison post over on the Ford Explorer forum (years ago), STP had a similar design and more media than the Ford OEM.

Anyway, after seeing this comparison post, I'm going to stock up on Toyota OEM and stick with those!

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tec...mpetition.html

Autozone runs package specials on Fram and Bosch all the time. I showed the staff a Fram cartridge filter (has no metal case, fits my wife's Corolla) to show them the crappy quality. They told me to buy the special (so the oil would be cheaper) and return the unused filter for a full price refund. It worked!

Ya, STP used to be a decent filter.
They are made by Champion Labs, who used to make the Bosch and still make the Mobil-1 and K&N (supposedly TRD and Royal Purple as well)

But about the time Bosch bought Purolator, they changed their design.
The AC Delco, STP, Supertech, and a number of others are now the similar design as Fram, but with an even cheaper plastic cage core support.

The premium filters... Mobil-1, K&N... are still high quality filters, though they did change the design of the bypass valve and it is not as good as it used to be.
