It is the one that fits the 2nd generation. WIX is 51348 if you want to cross-reference. 23 cu inches of filter area compared to 17 on the canister.

Does installing this "adapter" still involve going under the truck and taking off the skid plate..???

If so, what are we gaining..?? I've not seen one of these things installed.....!!

would think it would. not much gain since oil will still run down the sides of the filter when removing.

Well any spin-on will spill some oil, but the spin-on has an anti-drain back function where the canister does not. Also future oil change times will be cut in half and filter costs $4 less than the canister. Easy decision for me.

The canister has a nice little clip-on drain valve with it and the oil drains cleanly into my oil jug.... Not 1 drop missed the jug..! When canister drained, remove and replace filter...easy-peasy....and no oil spilled..!!

I'd love to see a pic of this so called adapter that we are talking about..!!

If you are buying a $5 filter, I would guarantee it is made in China. I only buy top of the line WIX filters for all of my vehicles.

OK, so this thing just screws onto where the cartridge housing is....!! What is the benefit..? Oil will now run down my arm when removing the spin-on filter. I get NO oil anywhere with the current system AND a fumoto valve..!!..??? OEM Toyota filters are available on e-bay and other places for cheap also..!

C3C6CC0C-9A09-47E1-A31B-212A3E79D1FD.jpg I cut a hole in the stock pebble shield with a 4.5 inch hole saw a few weeks back so as to allow for easy reach to the stock filter housing and draining of oil with a clear vinyl tube prior to removing. Some rustoleum was sprayed on the bare metal edge.

For those on a budget and desiring a slightly stronger front skid, you could purchase a second stock skid plate for a few bucks and possibly spoon it with the original for a double wall skid, sealing the space around the hole opening with some silicone.

The plan for now is to just install another piece of larger diameter metal over the hole held into place with one bolt allowing it to swing away to open the hole. It could be cushioned with some dried silicone around the edge to keep possible rattles at bay but I think a thicker piece of aluminum or sheet steel over the hole would be solid enough. Two bolts could be used. Just another small project to finish.

I’m thinking about ordering a set of aluminum skids for the Tacoma. I have a set of aluminum skids that I’m going to sell taking up space in the garage from the last truck.
