+1 but only for removal, hand tight is all I've ever needed.

    That is a good one.

I have one of these. It's a great tool for removing overly tight filters.

    I go hand tight.

At oil change time I can't remove without a oil filter wrench. That SoB tightens itself with heat over time. lol It's a real sumbitch to get off most of the time.

Actually I think it only loosens. It pretty much ruins the filter....not that that matters.

I only use it on filters that are so tight that a cap wrench slips. None of my vehicle....but friends, family and neighbor's vehicles that have been molested by an over zealous grease monkey

The strap wrench my neighbor gave me is hard to get into where the oil filter is and turn. My cap wrench doesn't seem to fit the Toyota brand oil filters, so I ended up buying the wrench in the picture you uploaded at Sears on black Friday for under $10 and no sales tax too.

Filter wrench should be for removal only. Use a little clean oil on the seal and hand tighten a 1/2 turn after the seal touches the block. Remember, all you have to do is squeeze the seal a little, it's not holding the whole truck together.

Thats exactly what I do on ALL vehicles. Always put a coating of oil on the gasket, hand tight like B R O said.
