Some, but not all. Having held Made in USA Purolators with poorly made and closed louvers in the core of their higher end Boss filters, and also seen absolutely top quality Napa Platinum that were made in China, I'm less worried about the country of origin and more worried that the quality is there beyond having a "made in the USA" on the box. Seems like companies are trying to pass the trash but throwing a flag on the box and pricing it at the higher end of the filter market hoping people don't notice.

My question is how many in this thread keep their trucks for 15 years?

Those are the only ones that really have a dog in this hunt.

If you are trading in after 5 years how does it even matter? Which it don't.

My 2017 recently turned 9 years old. 64k miles I think. I've always used Valvoline 0w-20 full synthetic and oem Toyota oil filters. OEM fluids, filters, spark plugs, belts and hoses for everything else. Well, the diffs are switching to Amsoil this time. Take it for what it's worth. :notsure:

No. Toyota just owns ~20% of the company that makes its filters.

i'm also convinced that most filters spend far more time in bypass than most people would believe, which also limits the amount of filtering any media can provide.

Why not use factory filters? I have been using factory (non TRD) filters for over 150K miles on both 2.7 and 3.5 and have never had any issues. 5K mile oil changes.

Nothing wrong with OEM filters, even the million mile trucks use them.

Why would oem not be fine? It’s made for these vehicles. I’ve only used oem from dealer. Beware of fakes online (Amazon and eBay).

I’ve been running the Fram Endurance as it tests in the top tier of all the tests out there and is readily available at Walmart but I’m going to look at the Purolator as it seems to be toping most of the tests out there now. upload_2025-2-9_11-39-8.png

Why is everyone over thinking oil filters? These are not race engines just change your oil every 5K miles or so and it will be fine. JMHO

I have been changing my own oil for over 40 years and never had an engine failure due to the oil filter.

There are dozens and dozens of oil filter tests on YouTube along with oil tests as well.
Some will say they are useless but watch some of them for yourself and draw your own conclusions.
The the Toyota filter is at #16
For those that say it doesn’t make a difference what filter, buy what you choose but if tests shows there’s better why not use it?
