Actually no. The bypass valve opens quite often when the oil isn't at operating temps even with a clean filter. That's because oil viscosity differs by two orders of magnitude between cold and operating temp. This also means Amsoil putting a red O-ring on the center tube is an utter waste.

Thanks for responding. I don't have an opinion either way but appreciate when people back up their opinions even if it's anecdotal.

It's my understanding the number listed on a filter's spec sheet for the bypass valve isn't oil pressure, but the difference between in and out pressure. Cold oil in will be cold oil out and as long as the media isn't clogged the valve isn't bypassed.

^The much higher oil viscosity when the oil is cold generates much higher pressure given the same restriction.

Correct but if the media isn't clogged as long as the delta between inlet and outlet pressure doesn't exceed what the bypass specifications are it isn't going to open. It doesn't care what the oil pressure is, just what the differences are between inlet and outlet.

Meanwhile the frame will rust out long before the engine fails from "lack of cold start lubrication"

The delta between inlet and outlet pressure can exceed bypass opening pressure when the oil is cold (and therefore thicker) at high flow rate situations (higher rpms).
Who said anything about lack of cold start lubrication? The oil will keep flowing through the bypass valve.

As a Service Manager for a heavy equipment company, this might be the funniest troubleshooting tip I've heard in a very long time.

Wow, oil filter in the microwave. I’m hoping someone would try that and video the event. I’d like to see, not so much what the filter does but what the microwave looks like after the event. Come on, someone belly up and try it, I double dog dare ya.

I have a 30 year old microwave stored away in my "junk" room that I could use. I just don't have an old filter. Are we talking paper filter or canister type....the metal canister wouldn't be good.

I think the type of person that buys one new car every 15 years might be a little bit more concerned about longevity than the type of person that can consume $50,000 in tires every year as just a hobby expense.

I also think you can do fine with the fram filters at Walmart too.

Yes a paper filter. I wouldn’t do it in house though, lol. I bet that would smell like a wet donkey.

I have new filters...I could submerge one in old oil and sacrifice it for science. :D

Agreed. PurolatorONE PL25608 in my 2018 v6 TRD OR... for the filtration rating. As I've seen it said... being 99% down to 17 microns. The BOSS is rated for more miles because it allows larger debris to pass through. I would luv to see the one YouTuber add PurolatorONE to his test. Someone has a black/red screenshot of the results with the PurolatorBOSS in the 4 on everything. I want to see the ONE's hot/cold PSI ratings.
