    Thumbs up on this part.

From my experience, the Assenmacher stuff is real good.

They also make very nice oil fill funnels if you have the cash and like cool tools.

    Too few to list.
I just use my hand and some rubber gloves to get the filter off. If it's too tight, I use a filter strap.

Off topic, details on the filter tool and all aluminum replacement cap for the 4runner?

Despite always tightening my filter by hand, when the motor is warm, there have been several times I was not able to get the filter off without the assenmacher tool I linked above.

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Just to be detailed here, when removing the oil filter I start off using that tool (as shown) in my original post, to first "untighten" the oil filter, once loose then use my hand(s) (using rubber gloves) for complete removal.

When installing the new oil filter I use my hand first, once snug, hand tighted then use that tool and turn the oil filter just a quarter of a turn with it so that it will stay snug.

Again, thats the way I've always done it ever since I started changing the oil myself back since the 70's.

As for the special tool used for removing the oil filter on my wifes 2016 4Runner, well just do a search on Ebay on oil filter for either Toyota 2016 4Runner's or 2016 Tacoma's. The aluminum housing will pop up and some come with that extra removal tool as well. The tool itself can also be found as well.
You could also probably search on Amazon and find it as well?

Yeah, i use my hand when I've done it myself, time before last I has the quick lube place do it, had to use a ratchet strap to get it off. But the ratchet strap worked great for a ghetto fix.

It always depends on how much room you have, I use my hand but I have one of every kind of filter wrench out there. For the really
Tuff ones I do the screwdriver thru the filter trick. Most always do my own oil changes
So I know it hand tight

I tighten down by hand only, but always find myself needing a little assistance for removal. Over the years I've collected a slew of oil filter wrenches. The one I use on my 4.0L 2nd Gen says 75MM on it. I have no idea what the actual measurement should be. I just know this one fits on the filter w/o slipping or getting hung up on it.

    So true.

    IMG_1470_mid.jpg

The one that works best with my OEM filters (I use 90915-YZZD3) is made by Imperial, model is IF-7414. I got it from my dealer parts guy, it's the one they used in the shop. That would have been around year 2000 when I got it, it fit the 90915-20004 I was able to get for a while and the 08922-02011 before that.

According to the Australian Imperial Tools website the IF-7414 is 74mm, 14 flutes. Pretty obvious how they name them.

old std steel strap oil filter wrench, only once did I have to use a screw driver through an oil filter when some one didn't oil the seal up or over tightened it

Took me a bit to get them altogether; but here's the collection. One or the other--or just driving a big screwdriver through it--always gets the job done:

These are what I use. Work great especially when you change your two daughter's oil also. All with different sized filters!!

Anyone using synthetic and changing every 5k miles. Do you guys swap in a new filter somewhere in between at 3000? Or use same filter up to 5000 miles
