    Same as everybody else...
I use Synthetic with a OEM filter and change between 4500-5k. It cost about 34 bucks every 4 months, pretty cheap insurance.

Same. I use synthetic and a Mobil 1 or Purolator One filter, go 6k, and change 'em both. That's on the DD. Both the '69 and the '84 get Rotella and a Fram or Purolator filter and get changed once a year or every 3k (which usually works out to once a year).

Ok am using mobil 1 synthetic with oem filters. Got a 10 pack in the mail yesterday And it happened to be around 2500 miles so i threw a new one on there. They came out to about 5$ a filter and thought i had read even if your are using synthetic which lasts longer, you should still be changing filters at 3k miles. Nicest truck ive ever owned so probably babying it a bit too much. Thanks for replys

Unless you're driving around a dusty construction site exclusively, there's no reason that a quality modern oil filter can't go the full duration of an oil change, even if you're going 6k between them like I do. The Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters are rated for 15k; I think they say that their regular ones are good for 7500.

The manual calls for 5k between oil changes so you definitely don't need to change the filter every 3. My opinion.

I am having the same freak’n issue. No search will provide me with details on the 2nd gen 2014 4x4 Tacoma oil filter wrench. It is ether going to be the 64mm or 73mm but then when I look them up it it tells me it doesn’t fit a 2014 Tacoma. Can anyone validate which size for the 2nd gen 2014 4.0l 4x4?[/QUOTE]

Hand tight with a dab of oil on the gasket. Then if coming off is a problem, hammer a screw driver through it.

I’ve noticed on my last change the oem filter came with a pre Greased seal. As others have said on with hand off with hand.

I knew a guy who would drive a screw driver through his oil filters and twist.

Go to the parts store, grab a filter that fits your engine, then go to the filter wrench section and fit them until you find the right size. I had to do this to my wife's SUV when it was new because there was no info on it.

The one time I had to use a tool I bought a set of big pliers for oil filters like these. It was the first oil change I did.

I’ve that many times when someone else horsed on a filter too tight. I turn my filters 1/3 more turn after contact and never had one come off or leak. I can get them off with a rag and my own arms strength.

Changed my oil while on the road for an extended trip and forgot my oil filter wrench. Had to improvise.

I can confirm that the 73 mm oil filter cover wrench (NOT THE 64mm) works on my 2014 DCLB 4x4.

@Muldoon I've had to do the same but with a screw driver. Good thinking!
