    First, welcome to TW.
Next, they have been using the cartridge for a while on other vehicles.
Also, the filter does the same thing, but instead of throwing the whole assembly away you are just replacing the internal element. Less waste.

Why is it people have such a hard time with changing oil?

Not really my wife's old corolla had one when we first started dating, it was at least 3 or 4 years old at the time and that was 5 years ago

I meant oil changes are new. At least, relative to the age of the universe.

The less waste thing probably has something to do with it, but I'd guess making it less consumer friendly may as well. Some extra potential service for the dealer shops.

I’m surprised there’s no aftermarket disposable filter solution.

They're kind of a pain in the scrap metal business too. They pick up and hold rainwater, then when they get melted the water boils off and you get steam. A little is ok....but too much makes a huge mess.

Lol less than 5% of the owners change their own oil anymore. Nothing to do with filter, although I heard that man really didn't walk on the moon... pass it on.

I just wished Toyota engineers relocated it and placed it on the top of the engine. SHM!
