My salesman told me you didn't have to change the filter until 300,000 miles.

My grandpa used to do that, he would leave the coffee grinds in it so his oil smelled like coffee when he checked it. Man I miss him :pout:

Unfortunately the info pertaining to the cartridge oil filter bypass is incorrect. The bypass valve is located in the base below the center support tube, it IS NOT the coil spring. The spring action that allows the entire filter to move up and down allows for slight variances in filter height while keeping the filter assembly in place.

And many who think they are experienced don't know some of this stuff. I honestly didn't know there were different bypass spring pressures. I figured there was a standard pressure for all like safety valves on water heaters and such. I liked the video, but fast forwarded through many sections.

Isn't the best filter the one that works, fits, filters the oil, protects the engine and meets /or exceeds the manufacturer's specs?

As far as those bypass spring pressures, i'm not sure thats partly bs, as aftermarket oil filter manufactures would need to build their replacement filters to the toyota filter specs. in order not having any issues due to this. I could see a cheap chinese filter not being the correct spring pressure, but i'd bet the good name brand stuff is in the ballpark.

The coil spring shown in the video is NOT the bypass valve spring.

Even the oem filters Just seem like cheap pieces of shit. Especially when compared to Mahle filters for Euro brands.
They probably work fine but they just seem like they cost 30 cents to manufacture

Most all modern engines with a constant pressure oil system run oil pressures between 30 and 40 psi. Bypass valves in filters are designed to allow oil to bypass if the filter media is restricted, or if the oil viscosity is too thick. With modern oils and proper maintenance, the bypass valve is a non issue.

I’d wager to say if a bypass valve gets activated the least of your issues is at which pressure. Because at that point you’re likely already experiencing catastrophic engine failure/damage

Nope, the bypass valve sits just above it…. The flat spiral flexure spring with the rivet in the middle.
