One of my old garden tractors that has a big old kohler engine doesn't even have a oil filter system, yet its been running fine for over 50 years with yearly oil changes. This bypass valve stuff is highly overrated to cause an engine failure.

^If there's no filter in the oiling system, there's obviously no need for a bypass valve

I've installed the Baxter spin on oil filter adapter kit about 4000 miles ago and haven't had any problems. However, in the back of my mind I do sometimes wonder if the bypass pressure of the spin on filter (I'm using Mobil 1 M1-204A) is close to the bypass pressure of the stock filter on the 3.5L V6. I've searched on google but was unable to find the bypass specs online. Does anyone happen to know what the bypass pressure specs are or where to find them?

Those mobil filters are good. I never had an issue using them on my tundra when doing an oil change every 15k miles.

Hes just talking about the cheapo Dorman canister, which is only supposed to be a temporary measure after you break your plastic one cause the dealer master tech overtorqued it on your last free oil change. For what its worth I would use one of those for long either. I'm sure the aluminum Toyota canister is fine.

Both the 2gr-fks and 1gr-fe (the filter your conversion uses) have the same oil pressure specs, 29 kPa (0.3 kgf/cm2, 4.2 psi) or higher at idle and 294 to 588 kPa (3.0 to 6.0 kgf/cm2, 43 to 85 psi) at 3000 rpm. With identical operating pressure I'm sure the bypass springs have the same bypass pressure.

You're right. I had to open up my factory filter cap to make sure it's the same design:

    AL9nZEWQVwDQptS7U84Fdx90GbDvVnWFT2aTZtJx_c7c49ec68cccd7577f2afdae0f03ead7d9b30461.jpg

Looks like oil flows under the center tube and pushes up on the quarter-sized disc at the bottom of the center tube. That disc is the bypass valve pressure plate and opens upward. The flexure spring looks to be designed for a high duty cycle. Interesting design!

I was able to get the center tube and coil spring in and out of the plastic filter cap without bending the tabs on the center tube base. The process seems repeatable with no damage to the center tube.
