I currently have 145,000 miles on my 2010 TRD. I've change the oil faithfully every 5000 miles since I've owned it. At 100,000 I switched to Full synthetic Mobile 1 high mileage. In the last couple of oil changes I've started to notice the oil is getting dirtier sooner like in 3000 miles whereas before it really didn't look bad until about 5000 miles. So my question is should I be changing the oil sooner or is the 5000 mile interval still acceptable. And has anyone else experienced this.

3k is overkill. 5k is overkill for a full synthetic. send a sample in for analysis (Blackstone labs) at 5k so you can see if there’s any issues.

Get a oil analysis done from blackstone lab. It will tell you what you should be doing and if there is a problem.

As motors get older, there's more blowby and carbon that circulates, it's only natural that it gets dirtier.

Oil colour is a poor metric of quality. It's likely just fine and the motor will outlast your lawnmower.

You can’t judge the oil based on color, but it can indicate things. Mobil 1 has a lot of detergents in it and can keep that engine clean for many miles, even when the oil is dark. Oil will typically darken as it is “cleaning” more and some of that is the byproduct of combustion. After a 15 minute or longer drive, pull the dipstick and smell the oil. If there’s a strong smell of fuel then there’s a lot of blow by.

You cannot tell anything substanative about the life of an oil by looking at it.

If you put brand new oil in your truck and drove a it around town and changed it... it would be black.
    Carbon is black.

Did you use regular oil before the switch to Mobil one? If so that would explain it. Synthetics will clean your engine, like already said they have a high amount of detergents. I wouldn't really worry about it.

Change your PCV valve if it has not been done.

Also, about a week or so before you know you are going to change the oil, add half a can of Seafoam to the crank case and let it do its thing.

    Snake oil? Maybe? Maybe not?

The dark skudge in the oil means that the oil is working.

You can't tell shit from looking at the color of oil. Color tells you nothing.

Edit - wait, clarify your top tier comment. Because I initially thought you were referring to higher octane but I just realized you might be referring to buying Shell over 7-11 fuel.

My old boss would always when he got a different (used ) truck for our crews, would always check and if the oil looked dirty would add a quart of ATF and drive it another day or so, or about 50 miles and dump it and put new oil in it. Again would drive it till it looked dirty and do the same thing, and eventually it would look good for 3000 miles. His theory was the ATF was high detergent and would clean all the gunk out of the block. He would only use the gm type ATF, not the ford, because it had grit in it, and he wouldn't drive it too hard when he had the ATF in it. He always had good luck with his old trucks.
