    So the repair has failed.
The big issue is with 2gr-fks is the upper oil pan. You cannot take the timing chain cover without removing it. So you either pull the engine out or drop front diff.
Assuming the gasket has failed, you can repair yourself for $2- 3K easily.
If something with the block, get used engine

Ok my bad yes from here on our ill refer to the passenger as right and driver as left.

Engine runs fine btw and no codes have popped up just leaking oil into the coolant and we can't figure out where the oil is leaking into the coolant

Likely the head gasket on right side. Which itself is not the end of the world, although it is a bunch of work to replace. Without me going back and reading a bunch, are you getting any codes now?

There's no way to remove the oil pan without dropping the front diff?

oil cooler is next to the oil filter on the block and uses coolant, could this have malfunctioned or leaked in either direction?

Short block plus new heads equals long block lol. I agree that would be too much work for DIY especially OP has stated he is “no mechanic”.

I agree with you no. 2 would be the best option.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Leaking oil cooler wouldn't cause rough idle, per OP.

Never said it had a rough idle, it made a slight ticking or knocking noise on startup for a few seconds

    No.
Dropping diff is not difficult, doesn't require additional equipment you would have to get if you go engine pull route.

Is 3rd Gen 3.5 Tacoma really a good truck? If you read all the complaints on this forum no one would ever buy a Tacoma. Almost every thread is about some issue with 3rd gen.

I done my research before I bought mine and knew better but bought it anyway lol. I have a 2004 it has served me well for 260,000 worry free miles.

Do you get bubbles in the expansion tank when idles on the hot engine?

Those bolts hold cam tower. There is like 20-22 ft lb torque on those.
