Found this oil leak after i did an oil change and wanted to know what i needed in order to get this fixed... I dont wanna put a band aid on the problem so if anyone has ever encountered this problem can you please chime in with a part number or directions on what i should do. I am new and just got this truck so i dont know all the lingo to this truck. The leak seems like its coming from where the oil pan/transmission/engine all meet.

    Thanks ahead of time.

Maybe bad valve cover gasket on the backside of the engine and it's dripping down?

It's really hard to see what's going on in those pics

It was cleaned and that oil is from a day of driving. I can't take any better pics because there is no room to do so.

I clean and use baby powder in hard to find areas...or find a local mechanic with the dye kit and the UV light. He can find it fast.

I think he's found the source. The pics are of where the trans and engine meet.
In the pics, you'd be laying on the ground, looking up at the engine/trans with your feet towards the rear of the truck.

What's the gooey substance where the two meet? I assume that can't be oil gelled up like that if it was just cleaned.

Yes thats exactly what i did. I dont know what it is thats leaking... has anyone had this happen to them? I know the trucks a little old and plan to keep this truck for a very long while so I really want to fix it right and keep up with everything.

The gooey stuff is oil. i didnt get a chance to clean that well into those cracks.

Again thanks for all the help!

did you spill oil in the valley pan when filling up your truck. It does leak off the back and follow the back of the engine down and looks alot like rear main seal.

I shouldnt have spilled any. Never spilled any with a funnel, only when i get lazy and not use one. Also its been leaking for a few days now. Seems like its calmed down since i used some breaks leak stop. i still think it might be the rear main. The leak stop is just a band aid for it right now until i can find some time/directions to take it off and replace that seal. Probably will take a week off work to get it done.
