I’ve got 120,000 miles on my 3rd gen. Just did an oil change and notice the entire underside of my truck covered in oil spots. The leak seems to be coming from the top of the bell housing. Any thoughts? Photo is attached showing the transmission. And the leak is definitely engine oil not transmission fluid

    Welcome to TW!

My bet would be on a timing cover leak, seems to be pretty common with these engines. The shitty part is that it’s a big job to replace the gasket.

Maybe just clean everything and monitor it? Might be just a seep and won’t be noticeable on the dipstick.

Last time I was under the hood, the timing cover was on the front of the engine. No where near the bell housing or transmission.

OP, check the PCV hose. Not much else at the rear of the engine to leak oil. Maybe your rear main seal..... You're gonna need to dig around in the back to find it. Then you can make a plan of attack for the repair.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Top of the bell housing? Not likely a main seal. Check the above mentioned points and rear valve covers.

Maybe get ya a fluorescent dye kit to add to oil and blacklight it after driving it a while. You'll find a source.

Possible rear main sweat, or sub pan sweat.

    I wouldn't sweat it.

Drops are leaks, stains are ok.

i would clean all the oil off, spray de-greaser, pressure wash, then check daily and try to find where it is starting. guess that's what i would do anyway.

Clean it, get the dye. Use a uv light to find the leak
