Don't sweat it my illustrious dealer put 8 quarts in mine I drove it 10,000 miles till the next change. I never check oil level......It's a Toyota they NEVER use oil.

BTW I drive it like I stole it (80 to 90 mph everywhere & lots of wide open shifts @ 6500rpm) so the talk about oil foaming is bullshit mine has 140,000 no prob.

    Finally a fresh view.

Please post your other anecdotal maintenance and operational guides.

We need to be freed from all these silly engineering based methodologies!

Granted I should take better care of my taco but theirs a reason third world terrorists use these things for overthrowing governments

YOU CAN'T KILL THEM & Lord knows I inadvertently try after 300,000 miles of beating the shit out of them quit worrying.....besides who are you saving them for?

    The next owner?

    Right on brother.

Please post your VIN so those sissy's can avoid your truck when it hits the used market because Carvana has paid you more than it cost you to begin with.

My last 2 trucks were used as frames to build class 7 score race trucks so they "disappear" from the face of the earth.
Besides if someone with half a brain seen one of my old trucks they'd know it was used up from 30' away

This a nice fresh view! I’ve personally never talked to someone that oil foamed and spun a bearing BUT I know it can happen. I bought my truck certified pre owned so I do have the 100,000 mile power train warranty. So if something we’re to happen it would hopefully be on Toyota. Also doesn’t the 3.5 engine have a windage tray? Parts diagram says it’s a baffle? But it certainly looks like a windage tray to me.

Geez i must of got a bad toyota back in 86. I drove my 4 cylinder pretty hard, and the engine failed around 60k miles breaking a crankshaft key tearing up the crank. Toyota replaced it with a new crank, saying it must of been a rare metallurgical failure, and i was back on my way. I think if they only knew.

We raced class 7 4x4 from 1983 to 1988 running the 20R & 22RE 4 poppers we couldrnt kill them no matter how hard we beat on them. Tach who needed a tach? we'd shift when the valves floated. Our only problem was the damn 5 speed transmissions would only last 1 race......maybe.. Some times the only gear left was 4th & that was hell on clutches

Not if they could prove the problem was caused by your service work.

    And they would certainly try.

    No problemo, keep it simple:
Simply drain all the oil out, put in a new oil filter and close her up.

Then simply take and put in 6 qts of oil and call it a day.
And I wouldn’t worry about the .2 qts. You’ll never get all that drained out unless you remove the oil cooler and lines. But if you do add the .2qts, then you’ll be overfilled and back to square one.

Moral of the story, keep it simple, it’s not that complicated.

    This guy…This is 2021!
Have you not heard or noticed? Congress scolded the auto makers in public hearings sometime after the 2008 financial crash for making their products last too long.

Point being, new vehicles and products are not made to last, but made to be either replaced or insured against breakdowns to keep the factories rolling, people buying and employed so they keep paying more tax dollars they (congress) can spend.

The downside to an overfilled Ccase is from the crankshaft.

As it rotates, if the oil level is high enough, the journals on the crankshaft will enter the pool of oil. This creates a tremendous SPLASH. The splash will overload the cylinder walls with oil and lead to foaming. You may also see blue smoke from the exhaust as the oil on the cylinder wall overwhelms the oil scraper rings on the piston, leading to oil blowby into the combustion chamber.

@JEFFRPM Thanks just the same. I'll read your maintenance advice, doubtful if I'll ever heed it.

Some folks have taken high grit sandpaper to their dipsticks to help read it. But yes, let it sit for a longer period. Every time you pull it out you "contaminate" the tube for a shitty reading next time making it appear sky high.

This. I put 6qts in mine, and it's just below the top mark every time. So much easier than trying to deal with partial quarts.

Mine came from the factory slightly over the full mark and both dealer oil changes are slightly over the full mark. Gone are the days when a mechanic gets the oil level close to full then carefully adds JUST enough to get to the full mark. BTW I have a 2.7L and I change @ 5,000 miles.

That would explain why the two different readings. I’ve noticed you can pull that dipstick out with one side high and one side just right.. flip it 180 and it’ll read high on the opposite side that it did prior. That’s the odd part. I’ll probably drain some out tomorrow just for peace of mind.

That only means the dipstick enters the oil pool at an angle. Or there is a bit of residual oil in the dip tube. Ignore the trail, look to the solid oil level on the stick.

I would not leave 7 quarts in your engine. When I do my change I just run 6 quarts Penzoil Ultra Platinum, and 7 oz of Archoil 9100.

    Works very well for me.
