Did an oil change for my 99' 5 lug with the 2.4l. Found online it takes 6 quarts of oil so I dumped in 5 and filled up the oil filter before installing and this is what the dipstick is reading when cold.

Once it runs for about 1 minute the oil reads right on full. Is it safe to stay at this level until the next change 5k miles later? I think the only danger here is oil foam. The crosshatch is about 1 quart, right? If so, it looks like it's overfilled just under half a quart.

As soon as the engine starts up it will pull oil from the pan and the crank won't make contact with the oil, correct (since it's at full)?

If it's not safe I'll crawl under and crack the plug a little, but I'd like to avoid having to do that if possible.

    Thanks!

It's fine. I thought mine was 5.5 quarts and it read just over the full line. One time I put 5 quarts in and it read right at full just a little under after the filter filled up. I wouldn't sweat it.

It probably won't make a huge difference, but the technical method for checking the level may be in the manual.

For example: Some cars suggest you run for 5 minutes, then let sit for 5 minutes, then check the level.

The dipstick in your image looks totally dry to me. Can't see anything but clean metal.

When you say it checks level after running the engine for a minute, are you running the engine for a minute and then checking immediately afterwards? Or are you first letting the oil drain back into the pan for at least 5 minutes. I don’t understand the point of a one minute check.
