If your tearing it down that far might as well pick up a new water pump from toyota. Unless it was done recently.
I think some of the water pump bolts hold the cover on but not all of them. I think you probably still have a bolt in there holding it on. Also remember that the oil pump shaft goes through the timing cover so you have to slide it straight out over that.

You might remove water pump bolts one at a time. If they are short you can put them back in. Long ones would hold the water pump on and also the cover.

Yeah I removed the ones at the start of the pump to the passenger side that chilton says hold it in,,, I’m gonna try to get back at it tomorrow morning but it’s been a B,,, I tried spraying pb penatrator along the sides of the gasket surface to hopefully brake it up some overnight but I keep double triple checking if I’ve missed a bolt and I’m pretty sure it ain’t a bolt but the rtv may just be real thick on my truck.

There are a few on the driver side also.

According the manual its 21 bolts or nuts for the timing cover + however many are in the timing cover to oil pan.

Alright I’ll take off the rest on the water pump tomorrow, the diagrams I’ve seen have really been for reassembly so maybe that’s it , the only bolts I believe that are left on it tho are the water pump and the idler pulley ( I would send a pic but camera broke)
