I know this may seem like a stupid question but is the oil pan flat where the drain plug goes or is there a metal piece that sticks out where the the drain plug becomes flush with it.

You can buy a new crush washer at the dealer for cheap. I have never changed mine I have 120k miles and never had a problem with it

Pretty sure it's okay on my truck, even off-road.

With the amount of mud I have removed from that exact area, I would never install that valve. Just thinking of it opening on the trail gives me the willies.

I do my best to avoid mud but still don't see how some mud could open the valve....it's pretty secure behind the skid plate.

Yes mud up under the skid plate, thick, plentiful mud. Takes forever to get it all out.

I just wouldnt want a valve that is one turn away from dumping my entire oil pan on my personal vehicle. My hands are fully capable of opening a drain plug thats torqued to like 24 ft lbs that doesnt stick out like 4 inches farther.

Personally for me I'm not going to put anything that could open or wiggle free on my truck that holds fluid. So I'll stick to good old bolts. But hey to each there own:D

I'm with ya. There was a member on here that posted that he went offroad, hit the fumato valve, engine bled oil... and the engine ended up being one giant block of metal. But hey, he didnt have to remove a bolt when he did his oil changes up until that point!
