    Hey everyone,
Was just changing my oil and found an o-ring about the diameter of the oil drain plug. Not sure if it is from the truck or if it is from another vehicle. I was under the impression that all that is used is the plug w/ the metal washer. Any thoughts? Thanks.

It's from the truck. Toyota recommends you change it at each oil change.

thanks for the quick reply, just to be clear there is the metal washer (which when i asked for the "gasket" at the dealership I was given additional metal washers) and then there is the green rubber o-ring that I found in the used oil (not sure if it was there before or not). A little unsure since I was given replacement metal pieces and what I found was rubber. Thanks again.

My bad, the o-ring doesn't belong in the truck but I know Toyota uses both plastic or metal washer. No o-rings!

Yea, I only have the metal gasket (washer)... Doesn't seem like most o-rings would be up to the heat.

Thank you all. First oil change on the truck so just wanted to be sure... Though now I'm curious who is missing an o-ring... haha. Also, much thanks to Chris4x4 for his oil change write up.

I tried a copper ring, it leaked. I have found the best ones are the composite thingees that came with it. It looks like blue compressed mdf.....

Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
I know i have seen oil plug washers that were metal on the perimeter of the gasket, but rubber in the middle.

I have some of those too, but they were used primarily if not exclusively by US OEM's. I think Buick used them.

Yep, that's it. Very helpful pic MonLeb......They look like some kind of pressed composite material. I would suggest you stay with these, they work. I have tried a other types, notably soft copper, and they didn't work.

And make sure you use the washer that comes with it. Almost identical to the Toyota one.
