First of all what will it take to make you happy (or at least not pissed off)?
New rims & maybe skid plat or bed mat. And of course a loaner while they do it.
Second are you willing to give the dealer a chance to make you happy.
If so call the service manager and tell him/her what happened and what would make you happy. If they don't make you happy call Corp.
If not call Corp and they will make the dealer make you happy.
We got a service manager fired for lying to us by calling Corp (not a Toyota)
Edit Looks like you got it covered (I often share computer time with the wife).

I will say that I have never marked any of the filters on my truck, or done anything to proactively insure that they did in fact change stuff - but I had used the same Toyota dealership for 7 years, with four different Toyota's. I just trusted the guys, and I was always in the shop BS'ing with them.

I was nervous when I first moved here to Orlando on finding a good service department, as doing my own oil changes was not in the cards as I live in an apartment downtown and they do not allow you to work on your car in the garage.

Luckily, I found a guy on TacomaWorld that is a Master Toyota Tech and he will be doing all the work on my truck from now on (sucks, doesn't it Jason?! :p).

As 4W4B said, figure out what you need them to do to make it right in your eyes and go to the dealership with it first. If they push back on it, push harder on Toyota Corporate. I have found that they are indeed VERY responsive to issues like this.

Another option is post the pics of your rims on Toyota USA's Facebook Wall. They have helped me with several questions via Facebook and I've been impressed so far.

Let us know what you end up doing, and what you hear back from Toyota!

Ahhhh.....Does that Jason friend of yours want to move to Western NC?
    Free beer and barbecue!

I agree and I want them to either fix (repaint, which I do not think they can do?) or replace all 4 rims and if they replace I want them to ship the new rims to another dealer to install, cause I only trust them as far I can lift and throw a Tacoma on my own.

I want the rims to look like it they did when I brought the truck to them. I am still in the "trying to calm down" mode.

I don;t think I can go back there now after filing a big complaint on them. I know how these "oooopppps sorry accidents can happen" in cases like this. You can end with more problems than you started with.

I doubt he wants to move! If he did...then I'd be back to square one on where to take my brand new truck!

You are probably right - at this point, I would just work with Toyota Corporate on it and have them get you the rims. Just have the rims shipped directly to you and then you can have them installed wherever you want.

Same here which is why I was X2 surprised they did this crap. I only marked this filter after reading another TW member having the same issue and I thought what the hell, why not, to keep 'em honest. I always mark my tires to make sure they rotate. I always ask for my old parts too. Now I'll be marking everything they are gonna touch. Truck will look like a NYC subway:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Big 2 Toyota of Chandler AZ did the same thing to me. I have had a **nightmare** of a time with this dealership since buying my new Tacoma several weeks ago.

Looks like the tech used a pan head screw driver and a hammer to remove the wheel weights, and he was not careful about it at all. Three of the four wheels are really bad.

What is the difference between the OEM oil filter and the factory replacement filters? Are they the same color (black?)

Sorry to hear that. It is not acceptable for a dealership to do this. Especially for what these trucks cost.

They told me that the oil filter put on the trucks new from the factory is different the regular Toyota replacement oil filter. How or why, I do not know? Maybe the part number? Although they seem to know right away by looking at it without checking it too close. Again, I do not trust these dirt bags to say anything truthful so who knows if they are blowing smoke up my a*s or not?

My guess is the factory filter is a little shorter? Color? Just guessing though. And this is for a 2.7l. Again, considering the source this could be all bullsh*t.

Have they fixed the issue with your rims? Can you go to another stealership?

I've said the same thing to friends at work like a hundred times and they all agree and would love to have access to one. Even people with garages find them crammed with everything but their vehicle.

You'd have to think there's a business opportunity here... unless liability insurance is the killer. That's probably it.

    Follow up to this saga....
After contacting Toyota Corp. and the dealership, they have called and set up an appointment to "fix" the rims and the vibration. Apparently they are sending in some guy that I assume will re-paint the rims. Told them I am staying with the truck at all times and they let this repaint guy know I will be there while he does this to watch everything.
Also a tech is going to ride to feel the vibration. Notice I said "ride" cause he ain't friggin' driving my truck without me in it.

My question, is it possible to have these rims re-painted without looking like s*it?

Bob, they should be able to repaint the wheels with little problem. But, It may be cheaper for them to replace the wheels. If the vibration turns out to be the wheels/tires, now would be a good time to push Toyota for replacing the Dunlops with the Michelins you wanted to make ammends for the screw-ups during this.

I'm not sure if they are actually going to "repaint" the rims - but I'm sure they will buff them down as far as necessary and reclear them.

If you're going to be by his side, take some pics of the process as I know I'm at least curious to see what they end up doing for them.

    I agree with this.

That's a very broad statement. There are definitely shady dealerships out there, but not all of them are out to screw you - in my experience anyway.

amazing thread. i can't believe what is going on here. at the very least i'm going to mark my oil filter when i go in for my first LOF. never thought i would have to do something like that, but now, since i'm tied to the stealership for maintenance for the next 2 yrs/24K, i will test this out. sorry for your troubles OP, and hope you get satisfaction.

The sad thing about this whole affair, this is dealership I have been going to for over 8 years (another Tacoma,04, and 2 corollas) and trusted them. Now I am wondering how many times in 8 years they did not change filters, and god knows what else they did not do.
I marked my filter just as an after thought.

They have called and want me to come in this Friday, the 11th, but now I am re-thinking that too. Think I am going to call Toyota and tell them they need to fix this at another dealership. Call me paranoid, but I do not want to go back there. Too many things they could do to cause all sorts of problems with this truck.
Additionally, right after I filed this complaint, I am getting all sorts of BullSh*t txt msgs on my phone and I have good reason to believe it is coming from the employees of this dealership.
Funny thing is I was not ugly to these people. I was pleasant and not an assh*le to them.

I just want my truck fixed and do not want to play games with some minimum wage employees. Their lose. I will never buy another vehicle from them.

Are the harassing text messages related at all to your truck or the nightmare at the dealership? If not, I would be careful not to let your frustration take over - this happens to me a lot.

I don't blame you for wanting to take it to another dealership. I'd say it's worth a shot asking Toyota if they can do that. Just keep in mind that all dealerships comes with their own little nuances, and unless you know a tech somewhere, you can't be certain that you are getting one of the good ones.

HOLY F$#K !!! I cant believe what a messed up job they did on those rims, not to mention not changing your oil filter !!! There is no excuse for that. I hope you make them give you new rims and never go back to that dealer for anything.

Took it back in today, and they had this place repaint the rims:
    http://www.awrswheelrepair.com/
    Anyone ever heard of them?

They seem to good a job, better than I could have done myself. Only concern is they paint over the wheel weights so I am wondering what it is going to look like when the weights are removed. I am hoping I won't notice.

For the vibration, a tech rode with me and said all Tacomas vibrate. I call Bullsh*t on that, but since I am never going back to this dealership, I figure I will try to get the vibration worked out at another dealership. I still have 15K miles and 10 months for under warranty balance. Besides that, I was not going to give them the key to take my truck out of my sight to balance the tires. Once I do not trust you, I really do NOT trust you. BTW tailgate works great for sitting on and drinking coffee and watching the service people and them wondering what in the hell your doing.

Will get photos of the repainted rims once daylight hits.

Anyone know a good independent shop in Western NC that works on these trucks cause I am pretty much done with dealerships?

They painted over the wheel weights? That does not seem right.

I was under the impression they would take the tire/rim off, unmount the tire, remove the weights, and then repaint everything.

    Very strange.

The did all of the above, except the wheel weights. When I have a re-balance if there is a noticeable color change I will have them re-do it.
