Here is a pic of oil sample port installed, I can now push a button with engine running and collect an oil sample, this will save a ton of time and can easily sample between oil changes

Would it be easier to just take a sample during an oil change than to pay for and install a gadget that could leak over time and cause unnecessary problems?

This is what you use to pull oil samples. You want the oil at operating temp and pull from the oil pan. not the bottom not the top but the center. I have been doing oil samples on my customers engines for 20+ years. I do not like using this type of port due to it using the engine oil pump pick up that sits very low in pan. I would not trust a sample done in this way. I have seen too many samples come back bad due to the sample being pulled incorrectly from the bottom of the oil pan.
I edited my post because I felt I should better explain my thoughts on this.

How often between oil changes do you send a sample(s) out for testing?

so with that vacuum pump you will pull a sample from the bottom of the pan picking up accumulated wear metals, showing artificially high wear, I should have phrased differently," easy way to pull sample before an oil change" Or in my case doing trend analysis to find the optimum change interval, If it is such a stupid idea, why does cat equipment and most major HD engine manufacture's provide a sample port?

agree with you on bad samples, I see also see many bad samples from my customer base of about 22,000 samples per year, found the check valves to be the most representative of what the engine sees.

I think it's overkill. But it's a neat idea. Picks up oil in circulation and doesn't pull sediment from the pan.

I've never sampled any oil from any of my vehicles but we send out 500 samples a month from gear cases on equipment at work and it has saved us before.

The hole collects dirt/dust, and would contaminate the sample. OP isn't asking for advice, but rather showing his mod.

agree probable over kill, just don't like the mess of mid drain samples or, vacuum pumps, Works like a champ start engine put a sample jar below checkfluid valve push button takes about 30 seconds to fill a 4 oz. sample jar, Hind sight should have teed off of oil sending unit and run a hose to a good spot, just watching oil analysis close seeing fuel dilution 3-4% at 5k intervals, going to see what 3 and 4k samples look like

If you leave any oil in an engine for 24,000 miles you damn straight better testing it and be checking the level pretty regular too! Seems to me it would be cheaper to just change it more often. Who are you going to trust an oil manufacture or the people that built the engine?

When you are servicing large diesel engines it is a way to inspect internal wear and if you start to see high levels of wear it shows up in oil samples. When it cost 50k to rebuild it is a good idea to know how things are wearing.
Oil samples will show you a problem is beginning.

The reason I don't like this system is because it uses the engine oil pump pick up that sits very low in the oil pan. The optimal location is in the center of the oil level when pulling samples.

If you have an industrial engine that holds 150 gallons of oil then this becomes an issue and testing becomes common place to determine the necessity of changing it.
