No, like I have said I have rebuilt hundreds of engines with sludge from people not doing oil changes on time....
Oil is cheap insurance and it gets recycled.....

So I have first hand real life experience that a lab test will never beat...

I'm saying running any oil for 10K is just a bad idea..........

Experience is great, but you kinda need to test your theory before you can say it. Not on time is one thing, but 10k is on time according to the manufacturer.... So under those conditions, what do you find?

    Cafe regulations and marketing...........
They pay less environmental taxes if they claim you never have to change your oil, transmission fluid, coolant, plugs ect........
They get lower cost of ownership if they claim you don't need any maintenance...

Some kid in marketing that has never done an oil change in his life doesn't no better than people that have actually rebuilt an engine and knows what happens when you don't change your oil....

And where you live and how you drive make a big difference....

But here in the North you can't go 10K, Toyota even says 5K in the owners manual......
Most brands cut the interval in half for the northern states....

I'd be tempted to cut open the oil filter next time around and see whats in it. My gut says its just condensation, but if there's any kind of particles floating around in your engine then they'll end up in the filter.

How are your air filters? No gaping holes? Filter box all sealed up nice and tight?

As far as everything else in this thread goes ... woah.

There are literally some people who won't change their oil at all. Saw a video once of a mechanic tearing down an engine whose owner admitted he never changed the oil, just kept adding to it when it got low. You can just imagine what he found, very similar to the pics you posted. Then there are those who drive 4000 miles a year and still stick to the 10,000 interval because they're too cheap to pay for the annual change. Again, same results.

If you drive 10,000 miles or more a year and take an occasional 25-30 mile trip, you'll be perfectly fine with what the manual says.

The Owners Manual suggested 5K on the 2nd Gen, on the 3rd they suggest 10K.

Truck bought and driven in Maine. Toyota dealership refused to cover oil change at 5k, so if you saying that, why did they still recommend it for 10k?

Mobil Extended Performance: Good for 15,000 miles!

    Me: ^ f that, Dump @ 5k

Every engine we put in at my shop is due to lack of oil changes.

That's awesome! For someone who drives only 4000 miles a year, they can extend their oil change intervals to every three years and nine months!

yes but is that every Toyota engine is in the shop? it cannot be if the Toyota has a designated 10k OCI stated for that model because at this time the Toyota dealerships would have a glut of sludged engines at their service departments and they don't. you must have domestic vehicles that have sludged engines

Yes, every engine. Not every toyota engine.

They are all due to lack of oil changes....7k....10k...15k doesn't matter. We've even had a few customers put 2 engines in due to lack of oil changes, they just don't learn.

    LMAO! No way!
Idk, I have just always changed every vehicle I have owned with synthetic every 5k. Peace of mind, easy to know when the oil is due, etc.

it all depends if the owners are ahereing to the manufactorers stated OCI, if the owners do that there is no sludging

This is the best proof in this thread . 68,000 mile motor and 8000 on the oil and looks great .

it's not always about sludge, just integrity of the oil is what I am saying.
I always figure for the mere price of oil, why not just keep it clean. The average driver only needs 3 synthetic oil changes a year.

I guess it all depends on the owner, my 04 taco recommended 5k OCIs 5W30, I felt it was a little too early for a synthetic that's only doing normal highway driving so I spilt the difference to 7500k, but that was my choice(risk). nowadays they recommend 10k on light weight 0w20 full syn. which is packed with more additives that is tested to hold up the extended intervals.

Most of the issues we have are people running synthetic blend. We had one come in 17k miles on synthetic blend wondering why the engine was making noise lol
