I noticed what looked like splattered oilon my mudflap next to the exhaust pipe, and while i'm not sure that's a possible issue, I was concerned.

I cleaned it all off, and checked back about 3 weeks later.

Should I be concerned with the similar pattern? Am I blasting oil out of my tailpipe?

Or is this the dumbest question of the week award?

    Not oil.

Your pipe is very sooty, indicating a pretty rich condition.

When you have normal condensation form in the exhaust, some evaporates, but some exits the pipe.

In your case, it's taking a little soot with it.

If you clean up the tailpipe inside with an old rag, I bet your mudflap will stay cleaner.

Any CELs lit up that need attention? These run rich anyway, but it's possible you might be overly so..........

Thats normal, its not oil, just particulate matter from normal exhaust fumes.

No check engine lights ever, actually.

I send my oil in to Blackstone Labs for analysis every couple oil changes, and the only thing that has come up is higher than average silicon (ppm?). They just said to check my air filter, but it has always seemed fine.

I'll rag out the tailpipe and clean the mudflap again and see what happens!

    Thanks!!!

My truck has done the same thing since new. Just soot and moisture from the exhaust. No big deal. My truck just hit 83,000 mi no issues.

If it was oil youd have a very serious issue on your hands... but its obviously not oil lol.

    Soot.
I would check your paint regularly and make sure you get it off your paint ASAP. It will cause damage if left there.

That soot looks to be excessive IMO.

My 20 year old truck before the taco wasn't anywhere near that sooty.

Agreed. You might want to pull a plug or two and check the burn.

How many miles and what kind of maintenance have you done? My taco had about 38k when I got it and the 30k service (other than oil and filter changes) hadn't been done. Almost 2 months in I noticed a large amount of soot much like yours. I only drive in stop and go traffic. I replaced the spark plugs and whent for a road trip, about 4 hours of freeway driving. Since then I have not had nearly the original amount of soot build up.
