Look for the highest place that the oil is puddling. Take more pictures for these anxious viewers.

Oil filter is on the right side of the engine... dip stick is on the left though..... did you check that it's in and seated all the way? Not trying to insult your intelligence OP, just a thought...

Not sure why there is hate on pressure washing. Just don't point the nozzle to close to electrical components and you will be fine. I take off the plastic engine cover and spray away.

I have used this method in my 4.0 V6 4runner for 6 years without issues. I will do the same method to my Tacoma as well.

Keep the engine valley dry? Come on, the engine gets so hot and any excess water will steam off anyway. Again I never had any 'valley' issues with my 4runner.

Why would you though? IMHO the maybe low risk outweighs the minimal reward

To keep the engine bay clean. When you off road engine gets dirty and if you do not clean the excess mud or dirt you can run hotter than normal. I just like a clean engine bay because I work on my own cars and I don't like flaking dirt falling on top my driveway and garage floor.

    Reserected from the dead.
Has the source of this leak been located?

With all the comments about washing the engine, I lost track.

Any chance v this could be transmission fluid?

I would not blame that on engine washing. You can rust from many ways, being in a environment with lots of corrosion can cause this. Where it snows, close to the beach, etc.

My friend lived in IL and I popped his hood in his 5 year old Tacoma and some of his OEM intake clamps had rust on them. I would not blame that due to engine bay washing..

Front main seal. Did a belt shred, or some form of string or debris get stuck between the crank pulley and seal?
