Not me either, but coming from a poorly maintained, lifted, bigger tired, 01 Tundra, I am ecstatic to get more than 9 mpg's. The best I ever saw in that thing was 13 mpg on long freeway trips. Anything above 20 (which I get most of the time) is mind blowing.

Dang son. Tell me you're heavily modified?

I was mainly kidding because I'm on 35s with a lot of weight and had to regear just for this mpg haha

I wouldn’t say heavily modified, but there’s a little added weight there.

Yeah you're at the right spot then. I thought you might've been stock lol. I had to regear just to get back close to 15mpg and keep my trans from overheating. 35s kill the truck offroad.

It’s about to get heavier too. I ordered my rear bumper back in October. I haven’t regeared yet, but I’m only on 295/70/17 now. The only substantial “mod” I’ve done so far is a 63 swap.

I see you have the i4. Youre going to get decent mileage per tank. Have you had to do any of the TSB’s for your truck. Just wondering

I will give you all the most in-depth explanation of my numbers. Seeing some of these 25mpg and 30mpg plus posts, they are hiding some facts.

I am mostly stock besides some visual upgrades and then larger tires. 265/75/R16 BFG KO2's. That is it. ORDCLB.

These photos I am taking are of some of my best trips. The first photo is bringing it home all freeway. The two with 4.6 miles is my commute home from work. The 9 mile trip was coming from a farm, mostly backroads and highway.

Now I don't get these numbers a lot with where I drive. I drive 90% of the time to and from work or around town, short 5 miles trips. In the morning going into work I get 11-14mpg depending on how many lights I hit. On the way home I average 14-20mpg depending on how many lights I hit. Freeway seems pretty steady at around 18-22 but I don't drive the highway very often.

If I had to realistically average my mpg, it would be 15 with my mix of driving. I am very happy with this number as it is a truck.

Now with all this said I think I can help some of you get higher numbers. From my experience, driving normal and staying lower rpm and trying to accelerate slow seems to chew up more gas. I get better milage in ECT mode and getting up to speed quickly and then holding my speed for longer more consistent periods of time. The truck eats gas accelerating so I try and put as little time doing that as possible. Don't floor it up to speed, but don't take a 1/2 miles to get up there. I will try and get to 45 miles per hour in about 5-7 seconds then hold it steady. Watch that mpg gauge meter and adjust your foot pressure to get above that center 15mpg line. ECT is the best to me because you get more control and don't let the truck do it all.

Anyone looking to buy a Tacoma and MPG is your deciding factor, this isn't the vehicle for you. Expect 15mpg average with zero mods and be very happy when you get that 19mpg and take a photo like me.

Please ignore the sign, it is not a live garage yet.
