Well said. If you're looking for daylight, go with aftermarket lights that can be turned off when oncoming traffic is in view. I'm the same as wolfpack, I've got 4 PIAA's on the front of my truck, when there's no traffic, daylight for as far as I can see and as wide as I need but they can all be shut off with the flick of a switch.

AGREED! However I thought this thread was regarding retrofitting an HID kit into the factory headlamps. Not adding offroad lights, nor the idea of driving around town with your offroad lights on.

Wolfpack is also correct on not being able to eliminate the beam scatter on non projector headlights. They do become excessively large when adding HID's to stock headlamps. Therefore, retrofit at your own risk, and double check the legality of HID headlights in your local county.

OK, so any of the upgrades that involve adding HID's to a vehicle that didn't come with them is technically illegal... Just dropping a plug and play HID kit, on top of being illegal, also shines light into the eyes of oncoming traffic and readily stands out when driving down the road. If a vehicle has an HID kit and properly aimed projectors, any cop would be hard pressed to determine if it's a stock application or not. Especially since the projectors are OEM projectors from another vehicle. This thread started as a question, 'what HID kit should I get', we're trying to talk him out of it and do something more sensible with better light output (projectors). Obviously, retrofitting isn't for everyone but the OP wants better light output therefore the addition of aftermarket lights was suggested.

Sorry, you seemed confused so I figured I'd clarify...

Slimcubby on here sells a HID kit which I bought. It -IS- a drop-in rather than projector but I never get flashed and friends have said it is fine oncoming if I don't have my brights up.

It works by having a metal shield that blocks off the whole bottom of the light. So nothing shines up. Then when you flick your brights it telescopes the bulb inward over a hole in the shield so the whole reflector is lit up.

If you have the coin I'm sure projectors are the way to go, but this has worked well for me. Just don't get anything over 6k color temp and you won't have the crazy scatter people describe.

    His site is here: http://www.slimshidxenonsource.com/

He used to just do group buys but has the site there now. Amazing service and good product IMO.

Around $100 for nice HIDs with minimal work is the way to go for the less loaded among us.

Simple, the projector headlamps are ugly in my opinion. I really don't like any after market headlamps that are projectors at all. The other thing is I don't really care about other drivers. 90% of them don't use their turn signals and almost run me over on my motorcycle on a daily basis, I don't see why I should care if I blind them a little.

I got mine from a guy local in Az who sells me all my HID kits for my cars/bikes/house(yes I have house HID bulbs on my porch). If your not using a projector he gets these plates that go over the top or bottom of the bulb and it reduces the scattered light coming from the headlamp housing, which is what normally blinds people if they don't adjust their head lights. They clip on to almost any size bulb, some of the smaller fog light ones he will ask if you need them or not and they come that way out of the factory.

I have mine done, 4300k to avoid any color issues with the law, pointed them down, put those shields on, and my wife says its not any worse with blinding her in her car then my motorcycle which has the same beams and projectors on it. I've already been pulled over by the cops here in Az in my new truck, at night, and they said nothing about my HID's (cop did a full walk around of the truck on the freeway and even made me roll up my windows to make sure my tint was legal). Cops in Az only care about the color. Run purple, get pulled over fast.. They like to hold a sheet of paper 12 inches away and if there is color you get a ticket. No color, they don't care. DPS seems to be more picky but even then, I've been running HID's for years never heard anything. Hell my mom has HID's i put in her truck back in 2005 when she got it, never had one issue.

I get that HID's are made for projectors, and doing it right is to put projectors in your truck.. I just refuse to change someone on my truck to something I don't like, for the sake of other people who don't care enough to use a turn signal.

I've been riding motorcycles here for about 20 years now in Az. I can tell you that not a single person pays attention to anyone else on the road, most people can't even be nice enough to use a turn signal. So I see no point in helping my fellow motorist when they don't give a shit about driving anyways.

Maybe where live its different, wish it was that way here. Everyone drives like crap for the most part and nobody cares about other drivers. I spent the money to get my wife's car projectors for the reason not to blind people, waste of time/money.

ive been riding motorcycles too for almost 10 years now.. i understand your frustration but why join them? if you complain about people not being nice and all, why should you join them and not be nice to others?
its never going to happen.. the whole common road courtesy and such, but don't add on to the bad bunch.

what you choose to do is your choice, im not forcing you to be nice or whatever. Just simply saying that i look at things a little bit differently and sharing my thoughts.

If i had the money or skill or knowledge or motivation to do a retro fit because i want something better and at the same time it is 'safer' for others, hell im going to do it. if i go the retrofit route route and it will lessens the chance to get pulled over and gives me the outputs and quality i want, hell im going to do it.

For the length of time to do a FX-R retrofit your services are priced very reasonable.

To the OP. Check out the latest GB. You really do not want to mess around with the vehicle lighting. Install the HID correctly using parts that work properly. The Tacoma headlamp was not designed to reflect light from a HID element properly.

You really do not want to skimp on a vehicles tires, brakes, or lighting.

The retro fit would be the only one I do but I don't have that skill to make them, and again, I don't like trucks with projectors. Just my opinion but I don't think they look right on trucks. Retro fit is the best looking so far.

As for everything else with being friendly on the road, I use my turn signals, I let people in, I don't drive like an asshole, and I don't mess around when I drive either. However, I can't justify spending that much money/time on changing my truck to something I think looks bad, for other the sake of other people who the majority of them are assholes. But I did take the steps to lower them and put shields on to help with scatter.
