Ok so. Soon I will be moving to Kodiak Alaska for 3 years. I saw some sweet RVs for sale. What size rv could the Tacoma with tow package pull? I mean visual size. I'm trying to picture what a 6800lb rv would look like.

Are you talking about a trailer to tow behind the Tacoma?

this was my assumption, 6800lb travel trailer. IMO, despite the '16 being rated for that, I wouldn't even touch within 1000lbs of that for a drive from the lower 48 to alaska.

Gotta remember 6800 lbs of your truck is capable of pulling that is max. Don't forgot about any loaded weight you'll have inside it. Especially if your moving and loading it up

Not pull up there but I'd buy one up there. Yeah I wouldn't pull max. Just wondering what a trailer would look like. Yes I would pull it with the taco

I agree with @Lawfarin, don't forget what and who you will be hauling in the truck. you need to count all of that as the tow weight. You should be looking at anything that is an Ultra Lite Trailer, be sure to keep your tongue weight around 600#, a good WD is a must, break controller, and seeing that you are towing that far and probably a lot of weight in the truck, I would consider the Fire Stone air bags...just my 2cents.

    Here is what I tow...it's a 24', overall length is 26.5'

I wouldn't want to tow that trailer up the Alcan Highway! When we do get a trailer, I'm aiming for one with a dry weight of ~4,500 pounds and loaded around 5K. There are several models of Lance trailers that we are considering. These are made in CA so a bit hard to find in TX. They have a lower profile than most others and even their larger ones are in the 4.5K weight category. However, they are a bit pricey if you buy new.

Yeah. I'm just wondering. By no means would I tow through the Alaska Highway. I'm just looking into them. Trying to see what I could live in comfortably.

If you are not planning to tow long distances and just want to get something to a spot to live in for a while then you should have no problem finding trailers up to 24' that you can get to a pad with hookups. Keystone makes some good lightweights in this size also.

I would stay under 3,500 or 4,000 lbs with a Tacoma. "Max tow rating" does not mean "can comfortably tow". One you take into account tongue weight, and payload capacity of the Tacoma, you reach your limit pretty dang fast.

The drive from the lower 48 to Alaska is a LOT LESS DIFFICULT than driving from coast to coast. Just long, and most all two lane.
I don't condone pulling 6800lbs with the 16, but you're looking to haul a house trailer to live in, (not a travel trailer to tour in, am I correct?)
Stay well under the tow rating, and configure appropriately.

I would think it would make more sense to have a mobile home delivered to the place that you plan on living in. Unless you're planning on moving it around throughout your stay. I just think that anything small enough to be pulled by a Tacoma would be too small to want to live in for 3 years unless you're a fan of a tiny house.

Keep it under 5000 lbs loaded, it's not about what the truck can pull... it's what it can stop or be overpowered by easily. Be safe...

No fuckin way man. You're WAYYYYYY over the realistic towing capability of this vehicle. I wouldn't want to tow over 4500lbs with this truck any further than down the block and certainly not 4500lbs of High Profile load.
