Yes and yes. Glad someone else mentioned the need to chock tires and set the parking brake!

OP just keep an eye on things once you get going. Ive never had to do this, but guys who have say the front diff gets hot. Normally the rear is doing most the work, in this case the full load of the truck will be pulled by the front, for 500 miles

Seems like driving easy and being slow to accelerate is a good idea....

    Hey guys!

Got the DS removed and drove it home, thanks y'all for all of your tips! Removing the bolts at rear flange was much harder than expected, in particularly lining up the bolts. Had to move the truck forward and backwards in neutral to help with this. rest of it was a breeze. Now, the one thing I failed to mention is that I went over 12k ft passes on my journey home and my front diff got very hot. Whoops ha, will change out the oil and ensure everything is alright.

Toyota is charging $1,400, local driveline shop is charging $670, and a couple online stores are charging $300 ish.

Does anyone here know if A premium is a well reputable company? See below:

    https://a-premium.com/product/Rear-Driveshaft-Prop-Shaft-Assembly-for-2014-Toyota-Tacoma-0s19RFA8KF

Not sure to pay out a premium to retube it over ordering a knock off. Thanks y'all!

EDIT: no local junkyard has it in stock

EDIT 2: Dropped off at drive line shop. $625 + tax

Personally, I’d go for the local shop. If the online place sends one that’s out of balance, return shipping will be $$$ Also unlikely they will pay for damages if there are any.

A-Premium is low-end. Most likely it'll work fine but will be weaker, with no-name U-joints and carrier bearing.

I paid $275 for a Toyota used out of a wreck with 21k on it. No salvage yards in the area?

good call removing the DS and driving in FWD. I was in a similar situation where I dented the DS wheeling but didn't have anything visible on the flange. Mild vibrations from 40-50. About 100 miles later the DS flange cracked and it raised hell underneath the truck.

I already had a 1 piece and found another used 1 piece to replace - replaced all the ujoints and center bearing for peace of mind. All is now good. I am now tied to a one piece unless I get a new cross member because the free flying DS mangled the mounting points.

Just like Democratic People's Republic of Korea is very democratic, or a minigun is very mini

A-Premium is OK for simple parts. I used A-Premium transmission pan and gasket for a Subaru last month, no issues.

@dk_crew did you have to buy a new driver’s seat because your butt bit a chunk out of it during the pogo?

We were amazed how uneventful the whole thing was. Driving around 45mph. 2 loud "oh sh&t" bangs with clearly something dragging / bouncing. The fuel tank was fine. I did have to cut/weld part of the exhaust that got smashed. I did have skids going back under and past the case flange which I think held the DS up a bit allowing less "wide" movement if that makes sense. But yeah ... crazy. inspect those flanges and take care of the ujoints.

Me in a J-10, following a friend in his Willy’s, he lost the front ujoint on the rear drive shaft. His rear end pole vaulted 4 or 5 ft. We just pulled the drive shaft off and went on our way with him in front wheel drive. Philippines, 1980’s.

Last update: the drive line shop was great and did a full refurbishment and returned the DS on the same day. Northern Colorado drive line shop in Greeley.

She's on and running great. Thanks once again TW for teaching me new skills and saving me boatload of money!

Now imagine that rock being a few inches to the left. Buy a fuel tank skid. You'll "save" money compared to a punctured tank.

Ironically I've gotten a free plastic skid plate from a 3G off-road sitting in my garage for a couple years... Time to put it on, thanks!
