4753 miles. Warning light saying "need service soon" so I took it in. Dealership says all I need to do is rotate the tires. Oil change at 10,000 miles!!! What the heck??!! I've been driving for 50 years and it was all I could do to go from 3,000 to 5,000 miles between oil changes. Now it's 10,000 miles?! Are we that short of oil in this country? lol:confused:

How many of you guys sleep well at night at 9,000 + miles and never having changed the oil in your new truck!!??

When I took mine in for the 5k, I had them do the oil change anyway. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I don't like going more than a couple thousand on that first batch of oil. I'm fine with 10k after that though.

Did you buy synthetic 0-20 oil? Is the filter a canister or a soft filter that goes inside a permanent filter housing? I hated that permanent housing system on my '07 Tundra. Had to take the skid pan off to get to it as well.

Actually you've been under a bit of a rock. I've been licensed a touch longer than you, and have been doing 10k changes for the last 10 yrs or so. Some of that on a street driven SCCA car.

In the 90's most OEs were specing 7500 for non severe use. 3000 is a Jiffy lube sales pitch

www.bobistheoilguy.com is a great place to start reading.

Want to feel good about YOUR oil in YOUR truck? Send a sample to Blackstone labs at your 10k change and let them tell you how it's doing.

www.bobistheoilguy.com I have read that, its great, however 10k still freaks me out, I do somewhere between 5-7k tops, I also live in a dustbowl so, oil is probably just fine, but the filter is probably shot by then.

    none.... yet

When I worked for toyota often thats just for the first one to help with break in. I dont know if you stock use synthetic, but it should drop down to 5k after that first one if its not synthetic. If it is synthetic 10k is fine, oils have come a long way since it was supposed to be every 3k

service writers misinformed me, this is wrong. 10k is fine on synthetic provided the engine is designed for synthetic.

You're out of warranty, right? So its now none of their knitting?

Do a lab test, make a scientific investment and decision on the results.

I don't know what 'designed for synthetic' means, and doubt they do either.

Been running synthetic in 7,200 RPM screamers since the mid 80's. I think it'll be alright. Even if the owners manual doesn't specify synthetic.

Toyota has been recommending 10k between changes for awhile now, because of their synthetic oil. Honestly, you could probably go even longer than that if you haven't been driving it too hard.

My 2013 Scion tC only needed an oil change 6 times in the almost 70,000 miles I had it. My 2004 Tacoma, well...that's a different story.

Yep, gonna be a PITA to change oil in this 2016. Would the environment have suffered that much to stay with metal oil filters you could spin on and off? Interestingly, the 2016 Tacoma manual does not have the term "oil filter" anywhere in it. I have it on PDF and did a search. The term "filter" will show you all sorts of references to the AC filter in the glove box!

It doesn't have an air filter?

Over the last 22 years I have changed the oil on my last 2 vehicles every 10k to 12k miles with Mobil 1 synthetic. Last truck was a 2008 tacoma 4 cylinder bought new. Traded it with 180k miles and absolutely no engine issues. My car before that was a 1994 cutlass supreme bought new and sold with 230k miles because the Trans was going for the 3rd time. Both vehicles has zero engine issues with changing oil every 10 to 12k miles with synthetic. I will not hesitate to do the same with my new 2016 4 cylinder
