Any way it could be supported on the existing rails, but only held in place with the two closest to the rear? If so, then you could losen those, slide it out & open a simple lid.

I only read the first post.
i have something drawn up that i won't share but it would work well for those that have their shocks through the bed ( them 14/16 inches )
Rails for drawers, etc. Its going to be a busy year for me

That was covered in an earlier post, but ideally, it would work wherever the consumer wants it.

I'm not sure what copyright infringements are from say, US to Canada, and vice versa, but it sounds like your design may be different enough with the bed mounted shocks that you could totally do it. PM me some more info. BTW, read the whole post! :D

So I've been thinking about this....

Seems like most people are going to use this under a cover. I think one drawer that slides out of the back would be best. It would have dividers that you would drop into pre-cut slots.

    I'm starting design....

I'm thinking you are on the right track... A unit that can be accessed from the rear of ANY tonneau cover brand... and hold good stuff safely and dry.... and possibly mount to the bed rails..!! Should be a hit.... I'm interested..!!

Only problem I see with this is that tri folds and soft tonneau covers have 3 mounts per side that mount in the factory rail. Will this come with a new rail or how will this work with sliding past the middle mount with out taking the tonneau off?

My soft roll-up on the 2006 did not use the rails... my Solid Fold 2.0 on the 2016 only has 2 mounts (at front and rear ends of the rail)...

Ours will hover above the bed....like an angel .

And it will go all the way from one side to the other.

Will it be an enclosed drawer? lockable? or more like a sliding basket?

Im wondering if it will be useful without a cover.

It will be a totally enclosed drawer. It will be locking, and it will slide out from the back.

I'm heading out tomorrow to a dealer an hour away to get a good look at the factory tonneau cover, so I can make sure it will work with it.
