Which is ignorant when you can accomplish the same thing for $130.

I think Toyota has made this option as a result of the influx of knock-off grilles!

What kind of "overlanding" do you plan on doing?

You can do it significantly cheaper all day. BUT it's your money, do what you want with it.

Just keep in mind that most mods are worth a sum total of $0 in resale when you get to that point.

Yeah, not really thinking resale. When we wrote the check for the purchase, we knew it had lost value before the check even cleared! At this point, the value comes from the enjoyment. I can happily depreciate that!!

Yeah, that happens. Pro tip: wheel the hell out of it and THEN decide what to add to your truck. Nothing like 5 or 10K miles to realize you don't want or need air locker F/R and 16" triples in the rear, despite how good they look.

Spending big money once is better than spending bad money twice. Do your homework and prioritize.

    obviously.

I can't say much, though, and won't even judge (publicly). I'm $11k into my own mods, but don't really have any more big ticket items planned. I guess I could figure out a way to spend another $12k, but it would require either the twin turbo kit or some pretty serious gear designed for actual expeditions into the wilderness -- which I'm never going to do... probably.

I built mine for camping, fishing, cycling, and mild off-roading necessary to go camping, fishing, and cycling. And good looks, of course. :D

I'm mostly into function over form, though. Going with 33" skinnies to avoid re-gearing, minimal rack to carry tent and bike, real sliders for protection, etc.

Perhaps I need your experience??! Running up the cost of mods, at least for me, has been pretty easy...
    Nitro gearing (Installed) $2850
    OV Tune (Installed) $600
ICON Stage 8 lift (Installed) $6000
    ARE Topper (Installed) $2100
    Rims/Rubber (Installed) $2150
    TrekBox $8400
    Prinsu racks (Installed) $1200

This doesn't include all the small bits! Perhaps I could save $ on the install(s), but I've no experience or the proclivity to perform these mods myself!

Oh, I didn't say it's impossible to spend that much money, and you most certainly picked all the right pieces for an Instagram beast! That TrekBox alone puts you in a different category of owners.

However, as my man @Gunshot-6A stated above, it's always better to do the bare minimum for a while so that you can eventually understand what you actually need versus what you think you need/want.

If you have unlimited funds, don't let me or anyone here stop you from building a dream machine. However, if funds are somewhat limited, or you wish to be frugal, you may want to dial back on all the next-level "overlanding" gear until you actually plan to spend days or weeks at a time in the remote wilderness without trips back into town.

It sounds like you're well on your way, though, so I wish you luck. If you really do end up on some genuine overlanding trips, I'll definitely respect your efforts!

It all adds up, esp if you buy something, realize you skimped out, then go get the good stuff.

Off the top of my head gets me to +13:

full kings, camburg ucas and dakars plus misc hardware - $4K
    sliders - $1K
    wheels and tires - $2K
    Baja designs LEDS - $2K
    RTT and rack - 1.5K
    Prinsu - .5K
    Fridge, slide, wiring - $1K
    ham - $.5K
    switchpro - $.5K

    but...LOOK AT IT!

8K for that Icon lift is absurd. Its like 4500 for the kit and $600 if you paid to have it installed. You can do it yourself on a saturday.

The trekbox is cool, but you can find plenty of diagrams and blueprints for a DIY version for a couple hundo and a weekend.

That 12K you just put back in your pocket buys you a lot of gas and trail spares.

Awesome! In that case, my only advice is to make sure you understand the difference between camping and overlanding requirements, and then spend/plan accordingly.

Other than that, just be sure to post truckporn of your taco in the middle of the wilderness. Some of us are into that sort of thing...

Lift is $4,700 and $6k installed. Again, installing it would only cost me more $ to have someone not only do the install, but correct what I screwed up! I know my limits and capabilities!
