    Yeah.
Yeah, it was, and this is TW so you gotta expect a little of this. OP, how does your butthole feel? :D:alien:

Someone else may need to chime in, but I thought the speedometer and odometer were read at the transmission.

I see that people from Texas have more of a sense of humor. Am I right or am I right?

Being these things are no longer straight gearing it is possible, but since this seems isolated it would be difficult to know what could cause it. I would assume if it did it once it will do it again.

Your mileage is relayed to ECU and so the true mileage can be read on it which would tell the shop how accurate your odometer reading is. The odometer uses a toothed wheel mounted to the output of the transmission and a magnetic sensor that counts the pulses as each tooth of the wheel goes by. The ECU knows how much distance the car travels with each pulse, and uses this to update the odometer reading. So it may be the output of the ECU or the odometer it self receiving the mileage being screwy

    NO.

    nothing happened.

miles counters on vehicles are regulated by the government. they do not mess up much, but
Toyota has on occasion had bad combo meters (your dash display) and you might need a replacement

you are either wrong, trolling us, of have a bad combo meter and need a replacement combo meter.

the odometer is more reliable at doing it's job and counting miles and keeping them stored (not
taking about calibration which is the input) on any vehicle than brakes or throttle or airbags....

This could be correct that the readings are picked up at the transmission as I was just wondering if this could also be picked up at the wheels as well.No butt hurt here!!

Okay now this makes some sense to me on how the readings are made.

Another thing I need to look at is about 4 months ago I had a Remote Start/Alarm installed and now I am wondering if maybe some wires have come loose?

Now another question comes to mind if the Mileage is stored in the ECU and you were to replace that with a aftermarket one that has no history of readings from the vehicle then it would be stored at the cluster right?

I have no experience with the problem you(OP) reported or the folks at the following web site. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to queue up with them and see what they have to say.

Unfortunately, this being an isolated incident and there are no codes or issues with it mechanically or speedometer readings, it wouldn't surprise me if you get quickly dismissed by the shop and dealer. Please update..

I would hope that if there is a problem with something that caused this the dealer would have this well documented as to what happened so it wont cause any issues.

your ECU has your true mileage so the dealer can easily tell if it is wrong and they can replace the odometer
