Your relationship with the vultures in the sales dept. lasts a few hrs. If you're not so inclined to perform your own maintenance and you are pleased with your service dept., be grateful. You'll be seeing the service crew far more often.

You said you recently had an auto start/alarm installed. I'd be prepared for the service department to blame all of this on an aftermarket install (unless the dealer installed the alarm).

My previous Tacoma had a problem with the shift interlock and backup lights so I stopped by the dealer to have them look at it. Service tech came back and said since I had an add a circuit powering my radar detector he would have to charge me to diagnose the problem. They don't like it when you do any work involving wiring.

Yeah, the sales dept changed their tune when I got up and walked out of the finance office when the asshole tried to stick me with some high interest rate of 5.3% when I have a near perfect credit history and score of 790.

I made it to the parking lot when the sales manager came up and asked me what was wrong and how come I am not leaving with out my new truck!!

And it went something like this "that fucking prick in the finance (edited for correction) dept just cost you a sale" and I ended up getting .5% from Bank Of America after he hit his magic button a few more times and sending it to a few more banks.

When I picked up my truck at the delivery bay after it was detailed and cleaned up I saw the finance dude in the managers office with the door closed.

It will be on if they try that shit!! I don't see anyway the alarm could have anything to do with this issue unless they wired it wrong and that would have shown up sooner I would think.

This is one of the reasons I am taking it over to a local shop to have it looked at that is very reliable and has some top notch guys turning wrenches.

they were the only ones that did the work on my Ranger when I had it worked on first class operation....

it is stored inside the combo meter itself afaik
(unless something changed in the past few years)

if you buy a new combo meter your miles start out at zero again

There seems to be a lot of conflicting info when it comes to the actual way all manufactures use to store and read the mileage.

Maybe because they don't want people screwing with it (shady sales practices).

Like I said before, it is stored internally in the ECU that away people can't screw with it

Here is my take on this. No UFOs or trip reading problems. You have done things that your wife does not know about and she has seen the excess mileage on your truck and you are trying to bull shit her into thinking your truck has problems. Just come clean as to what you have been up to and stop trying to blame your fine truck as the problem. You will sleep better in the end. BTW you stated you have a 100% stock truck but then post you had a alarm installed. Sorry that is not a stock truck.
