I am awaiting delivery of my 2016 TRDOR V6 MT. In the mean time I am ordering all the suspension parts I need so I can lift it as soon as it arrives. I have always run Old Man Emu set ups on my Taco's with 265/75/R16 tires. I mainly use my truck for 50% highway and 50% light North American overland type off roading. I have always been happy with OME, they are bomb proof and cheap. However, I have always been curious if it would be worth the extra cash for an Icon/Fox/King coilover set up. I am about to place an order for 885 coils with Nitrocharger Sport shocks, Wheelers Offroad 1.5" progressive AL, and Light Racing UCA. All of this is around $1400.

But before I place the order I want to see if someone can convince me that the Icon/Fox/King coil overs are that much better? Is the price of these coilovers really worth the same amount as this entire lift set up?

I had OME and switched to icon in my FJ. The difference was night and day. Comes down to $$$ really. But I definitely would do it again in a second.

For me in this order, just gotta decide what fits your budget.
    King
    Icon
    Fox
    .
    OME
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Stock

    imo
    Good luck,
    Mike

I do run miles and miles and miles of high speed (45-70 mph) desert roads that will often have unexpected dips and washouts. Maybe I should consider something more than the OME.

Night and day....that is a big difference. Kings are digressive valving like the OME's right?

OME is not designed for higher speed offroad like that, and the other stock components will have a harder time as well. OME is a good brand especially for something like an expo rig. I love my ICONS and the ability to adjust them but they are more $$$$

That is awesome looking, Toyota should have put a GoPro Mount in that spot! Are those LR UCA's?

That's pretty freaking impressive. Notice how little the frame moves.

Impressive, yes for sure. Neat to watch that suspension work. But you have to be careful interpreting too much when using a fixed mounted camera like a go pro. The camera is on the frame/body so it will look like it does not move because the camera is moving with it. Check out a skiing video with a helmet cam. It will make it look like the skiers helmet is perfectly still because the camera is on it. It is just how things look when using a fixed mount camera.

Don't get me wrong, that video of the suspension is badass.

I really wish ARB would release the BP-51 coilover for the Tacoma. It should perform just as well as Icon/Fox/King. Similar price as well, although ARB has not been in the full coilover business as long as the others.

Anyone else with opinions on a full coilover over an OME set up...

I put a 3 inch ome with 265/75/16 bfg ko2's on my previous 2001 4runner and after a couple months and alot of reading I wanted to do a full icon setup but never got around to it. So after I sold my 4runner and bought my new taco I decided to save up for an icon setup. My lift is the icon stage 3 with aal and tubular uca's and it is NIGHT and DAY compared to my last ome setup.although It being a brand new taco might make it better too I've always learned to spend the extra cash for the better product in anything.

I reread most of the posts comparing King/Icon/Fox on Tacoma World. I am really leaning to giving the Kings a try on the 2016. The price is all thats holding me back. The cost will just require me doing the fronts first then saving up for the backs. I guess with the adjustability of the coilover I can set it at 1" at first and then adjust later when I lift the back. Anyone know if you have to remove the Kings to adjust the height setting?

Hey guys, great thread. Would you say that brand order applies to both performance and durability? I'm interested in the latter more so, on my quest to spec out an apocalypse worthy truck. :)

King and ICON are very durable and rebuildable.

Good info here. Thinking about an Icon stage 3 myself but still mulling it over.

Old man emu and most ARB products have also been known for their bomb proof construction.

Funding is holding me up at the moment for a full king set up. I am wondering if I could use the OME 884 coils and OME shocks as a leveling kit on the front only? Might be a good temporary solution until I save up the money for a full king set up. Thoughts anyone?

Why spend all that money on a temp solution? Just save up the money to get the setup that you want.

I can't argue with that. I just don't want to mess up my undercarriage/rocker panels while I am saving up the money.
