    I miss my 1988 extra cab. I put 3/4 ton axles and a 318 V8 in it.

    I know.
He did say to ask my wife first.
It's my girlfriend that probably wouldn't be pleased...

    91 Toyota Pickup SR5 w/ 3.4L 5vz swap, Supercharged, 2.1 URD Pulley
    3.4 L 5vz Swap, Supercharged, 2.1 Pulley, Methanol
New to this forum. Thought I would share my hard work. This is my baby. A 91 Toyota Pickup SR5. My mother had an 88 growing up and I always loved it. When I moved back to The west coast I finally bought one and justified it as being a weekend farm chore truck and then fell down a dark rabbit hole. I had done SOME wrenching in the past but I really really fell into it. Like anything thats not your job, it’s sort of oddly relaxing for me even when a bolt is stuck etc.

I started by redoing the interior pieces, seats, going from pull a part place to place in my free time. I had a 3.0 in and decided to have it swapped for a 3.4l w supercharger from Toy only swaps since they are super reputable and only an hour or so drive from me.

They exceeded my expectations. A part of me wanted to do it on my own but didn’t feel comfortable with doing so. Since then I’ve redone the suspension, given it a small balljoint lift, and have done a number of little mods. Meth injection and even gotten into a little tuning.

the hardest part is that it is my daily driver so it’s stressful when I need to have it down for the week on a project. In the future I think it will be way more fun to have something that’s not my daily to work in as I can truly take my time.

    specs:
    91 Toyota pickup

    updates:
    3.0 to 3.4 swap
    Magnusson Supercharger
    AEM Meth Injection
    URD Crank Shaft
    URD 7th injector
    URD 2.2 pulley
    URD dynamic Tension Pulley
    Champion Radiator
    Trans Cooler
BX Built headlights that I custom did
Front grill from a 2wd version of this pickup that I liked better
    ARB front Bumper
AEM gauges: BOOST, AFR, Trans temp

    -new tires
-OEMnew upper and lower ball joints
    -total chaos idler arm
    -OME steering stabilizer
    -OME shocks
    -trail Gear greasable shackles
    -OME leaf springs
    -toyotech bj spacers
    -GPX Mirror with backup camera
    OEM manual Hubs.

-I’ve modded the OEM radio to have Bluetooth (thanks old guys on YouTube)
-replaced the carpet (worst three days of my life)
    -replaced any seats with rips
    -carhart edition fitted seat covers
-DC 250amp Alternator (for when I finally get the camping setup going)

lots and lots and lots more that I can’t even remember

One of my favorite little mods is from a hilux surf. This was pulled from yotatech but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it done in a 3rd gen. I had to really work on this one and cut down the unit until it fit. I also welded a bracket so that it would attach at the same place. It’s kind of silly because for now it only shows temp in C but I really quite like the compass.

I’m planning on just building a simple camping setup under the canopy. It’s a daily that can camp on the weekends and pull a small trailer. I’ve put in so much work and have learned mostly by doing things incorrectly 3 times and then finally doing it right. My biggest hope now is to graft a smaller hood scoop on it as I don’t love the one I had to go with for the engine swap. Also just drive it forever and NEVER sell it.

    thanks all!

like I said, next time I hope my project won’t be hahaha but now that it’s in a really good place I’m super happy. These pickups are amazing. Eventually I might put the original bumper on but I wanted to protect my investment since the highway I drive on has lots of wildlife.

Yes, I had a 1992 I bought brand new and drove for 14 years. Loved that truck. Even after the 2 head gasket replacements on the 3.0L. I love seeing these still in action.

When I was waiting to get the swap, my 3.0 eventually had a rod that was knocking so so loud. Even so I bet it would still be just fine today had I done nothing at all. Justin at Toy only swaps was laughing that it was so loud.

One thing that I was surprised by was how practical the supercharger was. Yes, it does open a can of worms with boost, etc, but for the most part its plug and play, and it makes it feel like a more modern vehicle acceleration wise. Its saved me multiple times at this point when I need to zip past someone thats merging terribly etc. My goal is to never get too in the weeds with it so the maintenance is always easy. Even with the methanol I'm injecting, I have it so it runs fine without it, and I only need to fill it like once a month with a 30 percent mixture. Its a noticeable difference, but I like knowing that I wont destroy the engine if I run out. If I get more into tuning this wont be the case but I always want it to have the daily driver aspect.

The only thing that sucks is using premium fuel, but after the engine swap its SO much more fuel efficient so I havent really noticed.

Working on this 86 right now. TPS and timing issues to deal with. Anyone have an idea as to why the idle drops to almost stalling the second it’s put into drive (automatic trans)? In park and neutral the idles good the second it’s shifted to reverse or drive they dive low.
