I'm just being to step over the threshold into old fartdom. I've got plans to set my truck up pretty nice, but don't want it to look to edgy. Just got this wheel tire combo I'm trying to set the truck up using old school cues, old school being eighties or so. I've been doing a little bit of electrical outfitting under the skin, but one of my next plans for something cosmetic is to fabricate a air deflector for the front of the lumber rack using wood veneer.

Just another old fart here that refuses to grow up, inching closer to a 3" lift kit, wheels and tires on my 2012 barcelona red dbl cab 4x4. Leaning toward the black XD Monsters on either 32" Michelin AT/2's or Nitto Terra Grapplers. I love the black / red combo for sure. Oh i can hear my wallet getting lighter by the minute and somehow i just don't care.

I prefer polished aluminum - and it doesn't have to be "flashy" looking, it can be clean and simple, not overdone

this was my '86 Camaro in '86. I shot the rims black with hi temp engine enamel and with those polished rings and caps it looked hot for that time
    [IMG]

and this is my '79 Malibu in '83. I was doing the black rims thing long before most of you were born. Again, offset by the polished rings and caps. You have to have offsets IMO

I like both... depending on the vehicle. Chrome bumpers... chrome accessories & wheels. Body color bumpers... black accessories & wheels. Only real exception, black trucks. Cuz black ALWAYS looks good with chrome. But black on black is pretty badass as well. Just my .02.

On that note, I would like to find some black center/polished lip wheels instead of the all black ones I have just to add a little contrast to the wheel/tire combo.

    Interesting thread.

I have had a few vehicles in my time and have always run practical, functional equipment. I ran whitespoke steelies on my jeeps and my samurai. I could never justify the cost of aluminum on a wheel. The steelies can be pounded out with a hammer.
Now today after being frustrated trying to find a wheel that would fit my 06Taco, I find I am going to go with the black, procomp steelies. $90 a piece and they work.
The price is right and they will do the trick.
On a sidenote that taco with the oversize chrome wheels is repulsive because of the wheels
    Different tastes for all

At 49, I'd definitely consider myself old school, but I'm all over the place. I kind of think I agree it depends a lot on the vehicle.

Considering this wheel for a 2nd gen silver Tacoma (all machined aluminum)

I miss the "old school" wheels/rims. I'm a "old fart" that wanted the "old " centerline machined finish (one w/ a lot of tiny holes in the middle, like Real Wheels) wheels on my 2010 DCLB. Just to be nostalgic. Hated the idea of running wheel spacers on my 2010. I like the "old school" "new school" mix that some car enthusiast are doing. Bring back the old with a little of the new and vice versa.

^Centerline wheels are $$$$$, but they make solid quality forged wheels.

I never really was a fan of the black wheels either. I originally ordered the Mickey Thompson's in chrome but they were so far on backorder (about 3 months) and knowing what the NE winters would do to the look of them, I switched to the black ones and put the white letters out. I love them. To me it all depends on the wheels. Here are pics with both the Mickey Thompson's in black and the Eagle Alloys which I bought used in chrome / polished. The Eagle Alloys only fit with 1/4" spacers so I got rid of them.

I am older around here and I have been running black wheels since I started wheeling when I turned 16.
one simple reason: I had a nice set of chrome wheels on my first wheeler and they would be so pitted after winter salt they looked blackish anyhow. I spent the time to repolish then but they looked that way again in a few months. So after that I just started spraying them black (back then they didn't sell black aluminum wheels).

speaking of old school, anyone else remember when you wanted more dampening you just threw another RS500 in there. In my jeep we did RS900 with the incab setup with a control for each shock and people were amazed with the tunability. Shocks have come a long way.

I do remember that. I had the five setting RS 9000 on all corners of my SOA samurai. Early technology but it did help lol

Talk about a "old School throw back" Change your shell windows to a teardrop or bubble then add a sticker on the back that reads " Dont laugh your daughter might be inside" Long live the classics!!!!
