No you’re in!I still wear them everyday but there not as comfortable as before so i definitely agree with you.Even the new Vans SK8 Pro Classic aren’t that much more comfortable with the supposive upgraded in sole.Never purchased a pair of Emericas but have a pair of Nike SB’s that typically are a basketball shoe for the high top versions.

Been wearing Vans non stop since 1980.Just can’t part with them,haha!
Vans were never intended to be a skateboarder shoe from what i can remember.
Crazy also how skateboarding may have never evolved if it wasn’t for roller skates.

 

I actually don’t remember who manufactured it or seeing a brand logo other than the “Biohazard” graphic.

 

I don't have a Holy Grail deck that I can name. I would say it definitely comes out of the late 80's to early nineties. That was the period where I skated daily and spent my winters running from security in heated parkades. No surprise, Gonzales, Kaupas and Chris Miller always had designs that complimented my ollie. Wasn't that the key to a good deck back then? There was a lot of pressure to get your board up over a handrail in the day...

 

I fucking hate Supras.

But I had the first pair of Muska pro shoes from Es that had the little stash pocket in the tongue for... stuff.
Those were some puffy shoes back in the 90's street skating era. Built like tanks, though.

Those Nike SB high tops are the shoes that Lance Mountain is sponsored for.
A lot of people hated on Nike for a long time when they first got into making skate shoes. They made a sub-brand called Savier that was based out of Portland to somehow avoid being associated as actual Nikes? Didn't work. Pretty obvious when a shoe company comes up and immediately has a full skatepark attached to their warehouse that's only across town from the Nike campus. One of my buddies was on their flow team and was bummed when overnight they shut it down.

I'll give Nike credit where credit is due: They know how to make shoes. I have Janakowskis and Kostons I bought several years ago that are still in great shape other than being dirty.
Their team is about as heavy as it possibly can get.

And lest we forget:

When the Rowley Vans came out, I was in love. Went through about 4-5 pairs of those.
But I stopped wearing them and all Vans when the last pair I had fell apart from just wearing them to work and walking in them.
The quality has gone down hill (no pun intended) with Vans. Their waffle soles are good for about 2 weeks, maybe less if you skate in them a lot.

I can't keep up with all the skateboarding soft goods around these days. Not even worth it, LOL!
