i've been trying ro remove this old sticker but little pieces keep ripping as i do it & i don't want to use a razor blade because itll scratch the tailgate. So does anyone have any ideas on how to remove it without me scratching the truck?

Heat Heat Heat. Something made of soft pliable plastic to scrape with. Some goo gone or similar for the adhesive. The decal will be brittle, so it will suck, but it is possible with patience.

Make sure your tailgate is washed clean before you start. No sense in grinding dirt into the paint as you work.

I have found a hair dry, plastic putty knife and patience works. I believe 3M makes a decal remover spray - never used it.

I've had really good luck using plastic razor blades. They come in several hardnesses for whatever you're trying to accomplish, they fit in standard blade holders, and they're cheap. Also great in the kitchen for cleaning glass, ceramic, or non-stick cookware.

Afterward, you can chill the adhesive residue with an ice pack or an aerosol and a lot of it will scrape off with the blade, leaving less for the GooGone to deal with.

The plastic blades are also great in the kitchen for cleaning glass, ceramic, or non-stick cookware.
