8 years ago I bought myself a used '96 Taco as my first vehicle...two wheel drive - wanted to call it blue but it was actually purple - I'm sure you all know the color. Didn't have it long enough to take a picture though, as I wrecked it back in Iowa in a nasty collision with a deer and ended up rolled over in a ditch.

A few weeks later, with a healthy check from my insurance company for more than I paid for the vehicle, I ended up paying $1,000 for this '81 Toyota Pickup I named Daryl, after the old man who'd owned it before me:

He'd had it since brand new and used it just to fish on the weekends. It had 70K on it when I bought it from his widow, and I ended up retiring it to a field 8 years later with 170K and a rusted out frame on both sides just in front of the leaf springs :(. Sometimes I regret not keeping it, but a move to Colorado was imminent for me, and I couldn't bring it with me, or find appropriate storage for it. I'd replaced leaf springs, rotors, a front shock, put a Weber Carburetor on it, two starters...fixed gummed up door locks, and all sorts of cosmetic issues...

It was a daily driver and hauled a cumulative 500,000 lbs of produce over a few growing seasons, brought chords and chords of firewood to my door, and served as my personal and portable palace for an 8,500 road trip up into British Columbia, down the west coast to SF and back across the desert to CO, KS, and home to Iowa. Those are all old stories now though...with a new job as a math and science teacher in a small town in the north central mountains of CO, I opened my pockets and got my self a SR5 regular cab 2010 4X4 Tacoma and started a new story:D:

This story now finds me in CO, as I said. I've put a Leer topper on it, and some WeatherTech Digifit floor mats. Both products are super, and have provided me with loads of worry free fun:cool::

I'm enjoying the forums so far, and have been browsing the Sticky's (which are awesome by the way), and I've been trying to stay away from the build threads because my pocket book says my eyes are way too big for my stomach.

Awesome community here...glad I can join it!

    Cheers!

Welcome from a fellow Fraser resident. The build threads are bad news!!! I got on the site to find out about the rear suspension TSB and have now dumped many $$$ into my Taco.
