    Exactly.

I started out learning to shift (left handed) at about 6 years old in my dad’s 84 pickup. The first vehicle I bought was a 91 4Runner sr5 MT with a 3.0. That engine was gutless but dependable. I rolled it being a dumb 23 year old and subsequently bought an 82 long bed with a 20r, then an 85 4Runner which I dual cased etc, then owned a mix of fords, gms, Mercedes’, Hondas, etc. the American makes were utter crap unfortunately. Constant problems including trannies in both the ford and Gm, various pumps, electrical etc. I think the Honda only ever had a bad window switch and the Benz had vacuum issues.

Anyway, as far as trucks go, I share the your sentiments.

I too feel your reserve on the new Tacoma's. I owned a 1980 Mazda B2000 Sundowner before buying a 2001 Tacoma Limited. I thought then that all the features were more than I would ever need or trust. Now I'm in the market for a 2019 and starting to think I should get all the safety features Toyota offers.

Are we talking old people or old trucks? I’m 63, my first Toyota truck was a brand new 77, my second Toyota truck was a 84 and my third Toyota truck is my 17 Taco.
