I used windex and a single edge razor because my '08 lancer wouldn't pass inspection where I live. Just squirt the windex on and scrape it off

Steam to get tint off. Goo b gone for remaining adhesive. Then clean with razor blade followed by window cleaner.

on moh's hardness scale, a razor blade will not scratch glass..just use enough lube/liquid to make it easier to get rid of the tint adhesive

I just removed mine today. I used a razor to peel up the tint just a little then pulled it off by hand. Then just windex for the adhesive with a plastic scraper, I've heard that razors can still harm glass, although I have used them in the past.

Prepare paper towels, trash bags, and masking tape.

Soak the paper towels in ammonia.
    Apply them to the tint.
Cover the paper towels with the trash bag and seal with tape, and park it in the sun for a couple of hours.

I'd leave the doors open ;)

The ammonia will attack the tint (this is why Windex should never be used on tint).

This. You might get lucky and not even have to deal with adhesive. The ammonia and trash bag method works well, but all that work is completely unnecessary.

Find a little steamer and you'll have it off in minutes. I just did a '95 Accord yesterday and it took me about 15 minutes to do all 5 windows, and left no adhesive residue behind.

What kind of steamer unit can be used for this? I need to redo my mustang and this way seems safer (smell wise) than ammonia.

If I wasn't so lazy I would post a pic. But any clothes steamer works great. I used a conair. Got it on craigslist for 5 bucks. Definitely got my money out of it.

Exactly, I have some no-name handheld steamer that someone gave me and it works great. They're all over craigslist for dirt cheap.

If you're planning to re-tint, check with a local installer first. A local place offered me a deal on my windows, $100 to remove the old hack job tint on my front, and rear extended cab windows. AND install new tint. Thats $100 to take off the old and put on the new on all 4 windows, with lifetime guarantee... Just a thought.

That's a fair deal, considering a new tint job on just the front two is normally $60+

But I suspect the OP is having an inspection or ticket issue.

A buddy of mine tinted windows forever and this was his method too. It sucks no matter how you slice it but this is the method of choice by the pros. As a related side not, this is why you do NOT use Windex or any glass cleaner w/ammonia on windows w/tint unless you want to remove the tint.

And don't fear the ammonia smell.
A bowl of ammonia, a hot day, and the blower on recirc is one of the easiest ways to reduce smoke odors from the ducts in a vehicle previously owned by a smoker.

Start it up, crank it up, close the doors, and let it cook for an hour or so.

The smell fades to "tolerable" quickly and is gone in a couple of days.
