    I gotta get a Yota family pic someday. In addition to my wife and I's pile of trucks it includes another 2nd gen Tacoma, 2nd gen tundra, 2X 3rd gen 4runners and a 1st gen Sequoia. And a couple of Lexus(es).

    The 22 r and 22 re were bulletproof to. And so easy to work on, they are what I learned on. You almost need a degree now days.

    This post has definitely brought back some memories
    back in 1990 I bought an 82 (Mirage) on 33's and 3 inch of lift, I used to take it to mud bog events, the poor old 22r was just too under powered trying to push the 33 in deep mud, ended up installing a chev 350 with a mild cam/4 barrel/ dual exhaust and 2200 stall TC used a turbo 350 and a old cast iron full time transfer case, converted to part time. built my own driveshafts, broke 3 rear ones eventually made it strong enough, amazingly the rear diffs are strong enough to take the abuse from a V8. as I never broke a diff in 5 yrs of hard off road use. that combination fit inside the truck really easily, ran it for 5 yrs, no problem winning at sand drags or mud events, rust got it in the end. that and back in the 90's a tank of fuel lasted an hour down the high way, it was a fuel pig, turned 3000 rpm at 60 mph
    But it sounded sweet with 4 barrels wide open and the exhaust singing, certainly turned heads and surprised a few mustangs off the line.

    from there I transplanted a few different engines in to small trucks
    85 ram 50 with chev 350 on 44inch tires
    85 toyota SR5 3.8 buick
    90 runner with a 2l diesel (non turbo) it was gutless so I replaced it with a Toyota 2LT (turbo diesel) the 2LT was not a great engine, they were prone to dropping valve seats, after dropping a valve seat twice, I gave up on it and replaced the 2LT with a om 613 (MB diesel) the Toyota 2LT was almost a bolt in, and would pull the doors off the 3.0 gas engine
