Older skater Guys & Punk ass kids BS thread

So lastnight i proceed to go to a friends house who lives in a gated community(Ladera Ranch)locally in Irvine,CA.to pick up a free upgraded couch that was offered and i spot this!My friend proceeds to tell me once i brought the skatepark up that i’m welcome to skate it.Hope to follow up with a session ASAP.

Apparently my friend says that there’s not very much traction that rolls through the park.Probably being it’s a gated community.It surely looks fun.She also told me that there’s a small water park on the other side of the skatepark that her and her daughters occasionally go to in the summer time.WTF,a water park.LOL!

 

Wait, so it’s not a public park but instead belongs to the private community? If that’s the case, I’ve never heard of such a thing but still awesome.

Yes not a public park,but a private high end community.It’s a first for me with a skatepark but then again i’ve never really payed attention until seeing the park lit up lastnight driving by.The water park is what had me LMAO and i still haven’t seen it in person yet.Most gated communities that i’ve been in have the usual clubhouses etc.The skatepark look’s like it hasn’t even been broken in yet.

Right!What’s really cool is my friend is a down to earth legit person.She has neighbors that think their poop don’t stink because of their obvious wealth and aren’t even community friendly.
I’m sure you and everyone else knows what a “Roundabout”is.I had to drive through so many to get to her place that i was like,flock this i wouldn’t even want to live here.

On a side note, for you mid/late 90's-2000's dudes, I've been spending the past few months digitally archiving my vhs/dvd collection. Last I checked it was 70 videos or so, so if there's something in particular you're looking for in full quality (I stream to my Plex server). Just let me know, chances are that I probably have it. I'm getting ready to unload all this stuff on eBay shortly.

Clearly not a lot of folks in ‘high end’ gated communities skate. Looks like it hasn’t yet been tagged either.

Maybe one day there will be be 55+ communities with poured concrete bowls for old retired skaters...

 

Right and would be nice.Like @pat's taco mentioned it’s probably more or less kids with scooters/razors.There was absolutely no there or around the area and if only i had my board with me.

Wish you had Useless Wooden Toys in there. A local video store in my hometown had some skate videos and when that came out, my friends and I watched it like 20 times in a row.
Basically never returned it and my buddy's mom was pissed because the store made her basically buy the cassette for like 30 bucks, which was a LOT for a video back then, LOL!

As far as skateparks in gated communities, there's one here in one of the Dell Webb communities called Anthem. I've skated it a couple times and it was okay but too far out of the way to really care about it.
There are also skateparks being built on Indian reservations so you can't skate those unless you're part of the tribe or with someone who's a member. A new one is opening up this weekend built by Pillar Design, which does pretty solid work for the most part.

I went to the Phoenix SkaterCon the weekend prior and I need to upload a few of the photos and steal some from the Facebook posts of the other heads that were there who got better footage.

Cab, Hosoi, Bennett Harada, Jesse Martinez, Steve Steadham, Salba, Dave Duncan, Bill Danforth... ALL there. It was pretty killer. Live music (including members of JFA, Since We Were Kids and others I can't remember), old school skateboards and equipment swap meet, artists, skate brands, taco and other food trucks, tons of sponsors, a super fun skate comp that had some KILLER skating going down and all happened at the same skatepark in Paradise Valley

I tried to skate but my right calf has a torn muscle or something so I only got like 4 runs in total. I was there for like 6 hours.

Still pretty stoked on the experience and can't wait til next year. Shit like that needs to happen at other locations around the country for sure.
